Your dream job as a kid/what you work as now?

Interesting! What area of tax do you focus on?

Income tax i.e. making sure we collect the right tax from peoples salaries, pension income etc.

There’s other areas like VAT, corporation tax that businesses have to pay etc. but that’s not my area, it’s just people’s personal income that I work on.

I was nervous when I started this job about a year ago as I’m certainly no mathematician. But you don’t have to be, it’s actually not that hard because the same rules apply to most people, so it’s fairly repetitive and you get to know how it works really quickly.

I majored in a linguistic-related field and was able to slowly build up my editing portfolio by offering free services for a while. Once I had enough work to show, I was able to land some higher paying jobs, both in-house and freelance. Right now, I work in-house.

This sounds to cool to me. I wanna work in publishing but I don't live in NY or LA.

It's nice. It can get a bit difficult when trying to manage the authors. My main focus is the layout, the costs, the marketing activities & content plan.

I still wish I would've pursued some type of scientific career.

I think I didn't really have a dream job until I reached highschool. At first I wanted to be a Petroleum Engineer then I wanted to be a Pharmacist because I liked chemistry. Now I work as a Process Manager for a Tech Company. I can't say that I'm necessarily "living" for what I do, but it allows me a good work-life balance and I don't feel incredibly stressed out.

You’re doing better things for people than if you were a lawyer. I admire you and It can’t be an easy job

My ultimate dream job fantasy was being a songwriter/performer.  I quickly realized in music that you often either succeeded remarkably for the tiny % that did, or failed miserably and would make very little money for the vast other %. I would’ve really struggled with that volatility and unpredictability of that career prospect. My other dream job in music was doing some of kind of chart job at Billboard, but I had no idea how I would’ve ever gotten a job like this and in hindsight it would’ve been very niche and if I ended up not liking it, I would’ve been stuck.

As an actual adult, I’m an accountant. The hours suck during the winter/early spring  and early fall, but overall it is a stable career and I find the work very relevant and interesting. It also pays pretty well.

I have really good job security/opportunities and can basically live wherever I want and know I could find a job. It’s nice knowing that.
