brazil Posted June 4, 2022 Posted June 4, 2022 Elvis was influenced by blues and black music, as well as country, it's unfortunate that at the time black artists were mainly restrained from mainstream media and didn't get to express their art, but Elvis did what he had to do, he had a majestic voice, great dance moves and the charisma and looks that really resonated with the time.
Da Vinci Posted June 4, 2022 Posted June 4, 2022 Elvis's rock and roll songs are kinda forgotten anyway He's mostly remembered for his image, deep voice, charisma and his love ballads like Always On My Mind and Can't Help Falling In Love

The look being white. Which was Ray's point - there were Black artists doing the same thing but far better.
Young Volcanoes Posted June 4, 2022 Posted June 4, 2022 he sounds mad it's not elvis's fault that black people faced systemic racism back then. what was he supposed to do, not have a career?

He’s not saying he shouldn’t have existed, he’s just saying he wasn’t that special.

Different perspectives, I guess, but I did not see a rant. He never yelled or sounded mad - quite the opposite as he was laughing and smiling. He was stating facts.

PrettyHurts Posted June 5, 2022 Posted June 5, 2022 “Elvis was a talented guy” *deep breath* ”Well…..okay”
Elusive Chanteuse Posted June 5, 2022 Posted June 5, 2022 I mean where is the lie? He was no Sinatra who could at least sing very well.
Sugar-Rush Posted June 5, 2022 Posted June 5, 2022 How was Elvis "not that good"? He was a great performer and one of the best selling artists of all time. Clearly he had some talent otherwise he wouldn't have gotten as big as he did. Ray sounds pressed.

Saint James Posted June 5, 2022 Posted June 5, 2022 he didn’t lie. it’s not like he said Elvis is bad or untalented.
Oceania Posted June 5, 2022 Posted June 5, 2022 I'm not a fan either but he remains the father of modern pop music as we know it, with controversy, stan culture and all. Anyway, can someone name a mainstream pop artist who actually invented a music genre or that didn't ApProPrIaTe an already existing sound or style?
MadonnasBoyfriend Posted June 5, 2022 Posted June 5, 2022 wouldnt one have to be white to whitesplain tho? When a man explains something to a woman she would say hes mansplaining...
dirrtydiana Posted June 5, 2022 Posted June 5, 2022 He didn’t lie. The op did. wasn’t impressed =/= wasn’t good
fememeist Posted June 5, 2022 Posted June 5, 2022 The Ray vs Elvis feud going on rn He didn’t lie though!! And he didn’t sound mad at all, why do certain people take it like that?
