5-10%. Billed as service charge

I tip 20% to servers at restaurants, my nail ladies, wax lady, hair stylist.

i wouldn’t tip anything If my server was rude but I haven’t experienced that

Nothing, cause I live in a country where it’s not the customers responsibility to make sure the servers can afford rent

I find tipping culture weird. Employer should be able to pay their employee a liveable wage and they should not be living tip money. It's just sad to think about how the system fails people

there is no incentive to go above and beyond for anyone or for any reason if everyone was making the same....let's say $15/hour.  You obviously seem like you've never been in the service industry. It's not exactly stress-free.

I'm a bartender, and if i make you a good drink, I expect to be compensated.  If I made the same basic wage as everyone else, then I would let the pour spout dictacte how much alcohol your drink gets and I wouldn't do anything else for you.

If all bars worked that way there would be no bartenders.  What's the point?  In fact to go further, what's the point of working hard at all?

Tips dictate service.  You don't tip you deserve shitty service.

Uhm exactly tip should be considered as complimentary for doing a good job on top of a livable wage :skull: what is so hard to understand? You should tip people for doing a good job, not because it’s a culture and their livelihood depends on it.

nothing. wealthy countries that having tipping are embarrassing.

20% minimum

20% or more. Even if it's bad service. I'd probably only tip less if the server was personally rude but that's never happened to me

I worked as a server for a long time, so I usually tip 20%, but I am very critical of servers because of my time as a server. There have been times where I will dip to as low as 10-12% (there's also been two times in my memory where I didn't tip at all since all the server did was take our order and that was literally it), but there's also been times when I am so blown away by the service I tip as much as 50%.

Usually 17-20% (and I live where the minimum wage is about $15.50).

I am still of the view that EMPLOYERS should be responsible for paying their employees a living wage, and it should not be the customers' responsibility to tip enough to make sure servers make enough to survive.

0 . I live in Australia.

Is it true waiters' wages depend on tips? Because that sounds illegal :michael:

Sis..... this is not the way. These girls out here trying to make a living.

ANYWAY, I tip at least 15%

Not everyone lives in the US, Queen. In a lot of places the servers get paid an actual wage.

So you agree that you should be getting your payment from your boss and that people should be tipping for good service as a way of saying thank you and not as a mandatory thing. Agree. Thanks.

I’ve gotten into the bad habit of tipping 30-50% of the bill :jonnycat:

I used to be a server so I know how important tips are and I can be a little “needy” when I go out so I always try and compensate for that

Isn't that what they're supposed to do? You order your drink and they give it to you with receipts and leave you and your friends alone to talk and drink coffee in peace? What else are waiters supposed to do?

Literally everywhere in Europe and Oceania just pays their staff a living wage so tipping isn’t a thing and the drinks/food is still good.

You show those capitalist ghouls, give them your business and let their staff suffer! :juanny:

where I live workers get a decent pay and don't live off of tips like they do in america however I pay 20% of the total bill for starters and it goes up depending on the service

How much do you tip your child's teachers? How much car mechanics? Etc

Sis… it’s very common to tip car mechanics and to give your child’s teachers gifts for special occasions in the US to show your appreciation :deadbanana4:

20% minimum.

20% when I’m sitting down

$2 when I’m getting coffee or ice cream

In Germany they don't depend on tips like in the US. So when the bill is like 17 I give them 20. Same with hairdresser. My hairdresser gets 15 but the cut is 12.
