Non-binary identity has hurt the LGBT+ movement: true or false?

Ive read multiple times that the non binary pronouns and nouns has affected the LGBT community and its reputation and consider it one of the reasons of the current regression for our rights. Even some gays don’t believe in the non binary identity. In SA, after the “ compañere” episode, people started making of the non binary people, What do yo think?

:skull: blame homophobes for that maybe?

NO what is even this argument. Non binary and gender queer people have existed for centuries. If anything it’s progressing LGBTQ rights bc more visibility and acceptance on being different is OK. Especially bc this is a topic we can introduce to children, without the sexuality being inappropriate arguments.

I think what led to the backlash over LGBTQ is Republican culture, the right wing is EXTREMELY against normalizing LGBTQ identities and especially in media to children

I really think it’s unethical to not validate non binary identities. To anyone here who identifies as non binary: you are valid and beautiful. You are part of the LGBTQ community. And happy pride month (it’s coming in a few days)

No, it's not non-binary people's fault that bigots and homophobes have chosen to use them to attack the wider LGBTQ+ community. What kinda question...?

No. If anyone thinks so they should be ashamed of themselves.

How about we just blame it on people who actively go against the movement rather than.. people who are apart of it :skull: this shouldn’t even be a question/thread

If you have to cater and tailor the LGBT+ community into concepts the straights understand then they don't accept you anyway.

To hate non-binary people, you're subscribing to a bioessentialism that also says that your sexuality as a queer person is unnatural.

There is literally no difference in evidence for the statements of "if you have a *****, you're a man" and "your body produces semen as a man to impregnate women; your body is not made to have same sex attraction and your lack of attraction to women is wrong and unnatural".

There is no way to try and throw nb people under the bus or then binary trans people under the bus without harming LGB people because the root of why peopoe hate us is the same and none of our faults.

I’ll always remember that article that said the entire non-binary, pronoun movement was just a white privilege.

No it didn't hurt the community. It is just used as a reason to hate atm because it got more representation the last few years.

Non-binary people, two sprited people and other ways of identifying have been a thing for decades.

It's the same lame argument when 'the straights tm' say that gay stuff is shoved down their troat, it's not, it just got more representation in movies, tv and (pop) culture and since we live in a time where people can react unfiltered on social media and have easier ways to gain a platform/pedestal, it is also easier for negativity and hate to grab that platform and use it against us.

Also people don't like what they don't know. So people will see non-binary as something ridiculous. But at one point in time it was also ridiculous to think women should have basic rights. And it also hasn't been that long ago that gays globally were seen as 'sick' or 'ill' and we overall still have a longway to go for LGBTQ+ rights, but also human rights in general if we look at racism and other hateful topics

hold on... there are people that actually use these "they/them" pronouns outside of social media & expect people to call them by those pronouns? :biblio: I believe if anything, this "self discovery" or whatever is supposed to be a personal thing

Posted

No. They have a right to be themselves.

However those who thought it was cool and trendy to come out as them for a little while made it annoying and a joke to the gp.
