ALA Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 (edited) https://deadline.com/2022/05/top-gun-maverick-box-office-1235034420/ Quote After a 36 year wait, the Tom Cruise sequel Top Gun: Maverick finally took off to a massive $19.3M in previews. That’s the highest grossing preview in Paramount Pictures’ history and the highest grossing Memorial Day preview in history. Previous big preview for Paramount was 2009’s Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen with $16M, which were on a Tuesday before a $62M Wednesday (repping 25% of opening day). Best Thursday previews for a movie opening over Memorial Day weekend actually belongs to Disney’s Star Wars: A Solo Story which saw $14.1M, but only repped 40% of its first Friday’s $35.3M; that movie being panned by fans and yet resulting in a $103M 4-day holiday opening what the Edited May 27, 2022 by ALA
Shelter Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 I didn’t realise Top Gun was so popular. Out of all Tom’s movies, I’m surprised. Maybe it’s Gaga’s number 82 hit that did it?
ALA Posted May 27, 2022 Author Posted May 27, 2022 Considering how massive the previews are and it'll probably not be as frontloaded as other blockbusters this may gross more than Doctor Strange and Batman domestically mama what
Richie.Valdez Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 With that exposure we should easily expect Hold my Hand to be massive.. anything less would be a failure
Pop Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 I talked to some people in my movie theater and they were all there to experience Lady Gaga's "Hold My Hand" on the big screen. It was PACKED. Gaga's TOP GUN is proof that she is once again a Hollywood blockbuster magnet!
Oktober Knight Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 Oh wow thank you Gaga. This couldn't have been as successful without her
harwee Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 Gaga's Top Gun, another acclaimed smasha Was planning for tomorrow's imax but its SOLD OUT.
FolkLover1989 Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 Lmao no it's not because of Gaga. Top Gun has been massive IP for long time.

I'm honestly shocked. It's a sequel to 36 year old movie. I figured it'll be Cruises best opening but 80-100 million?

Uh this will definitely make over $300m it's not opening to less than $100m with that preview #. the WoM will be good, what competition, Jurassic World and Lightyear? It'll hold fine and has the weekend to itself next week.

The 100 Million prediction is for 4 days For it to make more than 300 million it'll done more than a 3x multiplier to a 4 day weekend. That's not happening. It's gonna hold well but not THAT well. We're still not in place where we were back 2019 where we have long lasting box office hits. I wouldnt be surprised if this is on Paramount Plus by July 4.

The article says $80-100m projections were before. It's gonna do well over that. previews+Friday alone will be $50m+.
ALA Posted May 27, 2022 Author Posted May 27, 2022 Quote FRIDAY MIDDAY UPDATE: It’s looking like a record opening for Memorial Day weekend as Joseph Kosinski’s Top Gun: Maverick is set to earn $142.4M over four days, which will easily overtake Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End which did $139.8M. It’s taken 15 years for that record to be broken. Friday for the Tom Cruise sequel is looking like $50M with an estimated 3-day of $117M. That will make Top Gun: Maverick the second biggest opener for Paramount after Iron Man 2 which debuted to $128.1M, and ahead of 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull ($100.1M). Top Gun 2 is also the second biggest opening day for a Paramount title after Iron Man 2‘s $51.1M.
