Hipgnosis said Friday that it has bought 100 percent “of all of Justin Timberlake’s copyright, ownership and financial interests of the writer and publisher’s share of public performance income, and the catalog of musical compositions written by Justin Timberlake.” Also included in the sale are “the worldwide administration rights to the compositions, subject to the remaining term of Universal Music’s administration rights, which expire in 2025.”

Financial details of the deal weren’t disclosed.

I get it more so for older artists who are close to retiring but someone so young?! Isn't he going to have to pay someone else every time he performs his own songs? :skull:

Really interested in knowing how much. If Nelly Furtado could get $50m (no disrespect to her), I wonder how much Justin would get.

What about his future releases from now on?

Does this mean he’s retiring? Well thank god we won’t be bombarded with more obnoxious terrible outdated poorly produced headache inducing lyrics music :jonnycat: thank you mister Timberlake the best thing you’ve ever done in your career

Has he given up on music? I feel like with a carefully done rebrand, new look, and return to an R&B-infused sound he could have another era or two in him.

No, he just takes a lot of time to release music.

2006 Future Sex/Love Sounds

2013 The 20/20 Experience Part I & II

2018 Man of the Woods

He could probably release something next year maybe? (5 years gap)

at least someone is buying man of the woods :eli:

He can still make music. Tbh I’d do the same, they’re buying these catalogs for absurdly high prices.

No, also these are the same people that also bought Shakira’s catalogue and she is still releasing freely.

Maybe they will try to make profit rereleasing his catalogue with anniversary editions or so.

His music was trash after his second album anyways. He can retire

How much

I’m really wondering what plans Hipgnosis and Blackstone have in plans to make money off these catalogs in the future? The streams and physical sales are not going to claw profits and mechanical/publishing royalties from touring / radio is very volatile.

Does this include 4 minutes

These deals could have something to do with artists not getting paid enough for streaming, and physical sales being dead in the water, unless you are a Taylor, Adele or Harry.

The money is in touring. I think artists who do this may have a plan to make touring their main source of income if they’re able to still sell out venues. I don’t like this man one bit, but he is undeniably a touring force. People still showed up to a concert for an album that was critically and fan panned. That says a lot.
