WBK about these wealthy European countries. They are fine with non white people but only from a distance.

it's not about "non-white people" it's specifically about Black people. A Japanese person definitely wouldn't have the same experience in Switzerland. Ms Olivia I'm POC Rodriguo would one billion percent not be made to feel like an alien the way ms Runway was :cm:

swiss people are unwelcoming to everyone who isn‘t swiss even if you speak their language, their swiss exceptionalism is always giving me uk vibes.

What do you mean? Are you referring to Brexit? The UK has a very self-deprecatory culture and overt displays of nationalism are rare outside of the toxic football culture (which is also toxic in other European and South American countries).

The UK is a very diverse country, but the behaviour in the tweet would possibly happen in very rural incest-y areas.

That has never been said in here but please quote someone saying that...

I'm not going to look through the millions of posts that this site has accumulated over the last 2 decades to find an exact quote, but to paraphrase, "Europe good, America bad" when it comes to race relations has been a common assertion around here for as long as I can remember. :coffee2:

Damn I went to Geneva with my whole family like 10 years ago and had a great experience. But when we visited Poland it was a mess, getting stared at non stop everywhere you go:toofunny2:

Definitely agree.

i mean i currently live in a middle eastern country and people literally mock america/americans for the whole social justice discourse, calling them weak for putting up with the BLM movement...etc don't even get me started on how Black people are treated in the streets :mazen:

I'm not white and I have never experienced racism in Switzerland

Spoiler

Switzerland is very welcoming of foreigners :giraffe:

As a Swiss it doesn't really surprise me if she went in the Swiss's center.

Since I'm not black, I can't really tell but I think big city like Geneva, Lausanne, Zurich are more open mind.

So true :deadbanana4: I'm an Afro-Belgian and their French isn't that different from ours but I felt extremely condescended when trying to speak it to the locals in Lausanne. I had to opt for English instead (which is my native, but you'd think they'd appreciate any effort to communicate in their language). The Swiss are very cold with foreigners or expats, regardless of what language they speak. Internal xenophobia is rampant as well. I think it's encouraged by their Alpine culture and way of living. It's not uncommon to find cases like these in Austria as well.

I know we can look cold. I don't know you're French level but if I see someone struggling in French, I would to talk him/her in English to make it simpler for him/her. Or maybe you were with the wrong person

you might not consider yourself white but you are not black, those people in Switzerland probably thought you were white or read you as white/white adjacent. One thing about Europe, they usually consider tan skinned people as a different shade of white, while black people are completely othered

Good on her for calling it out, that must be awful to deal with. She’s a legend in the making.

Although I can’t help but wonder if they’re just staring at her because she is always in some extravagant outfit serving looks, she’s so ******* extra. Love her.

Stream Gucci and Damn Daniel out of solidarity because her streams are way too low for what she’s giving us and it’s serving racisme.

no black person ever has a good experience in switzerland :rip:

the fact that users are critiquing bree’s feelings rather than the racism she faced isn’t surprising but it still stings a bit   :katie:

it has tho :rip:

whether its explicit or not doesn’t really matter but a lot of european users on here chastise the US about racism as if

1. said users haven’t exhibited racist behavior before, multiple times at that

2. racism was literally invented by europeans and is the reason why europe is so developed now :deadbanana2:
