I'm not from there but I checked my local cinema and they literally haven't sold any seats for tomorrow night so this sounds wild to me I don't think Americans care that much about Top Gun outside of it being a fun 80s throwback. If this movie is successful it's because people will flock to the theatres to see any Tom Cruise blockbuster (except The Mummy)

Bosque Posted May 27, 2022 Author Posted May 27, 2022 (edited) Quote Paramount’s Top Gun: Maverick is soaring in its overseas debuts, clocking $33M from 47 markets at the international box office through Thursday. The Tom Cruise-starrer officially launched on Wednesday offshore, following paid previews in some hubs, and adds another 15 markets today, bringing the total to 62 in what is the studio’s widest release ever internationally on nearly 24,000 screens. Word of mouth is great on the sequel that comes 36 years after the original summer blockbuster, and an $80M+ overseas opening weekend is assured. Highlights so far include France, which bowed Wednesday to $1.8M. Shallow was the biggest hit of all time in France, so I'm not surprised Lady Gaga's Top Gun would put especially many butts in seats there. Edited May 27, 2022 by Dephira
Bosque Posted May 27, 2022 Author Posted May 27, 2022 Quote FRIDAY MIDDAY UPDATE: It’s looking like a record opening for Memorial Day weekend as Joseph Kosinski’s Top Gun: Maverick is set to earn $142.4M over four days, which will easily overtake Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End which did $139.8M. It’s taken 15 years for that record to be broken. Friday for the Tom Cruise sequel is looking like $50M with an estimated 3-day of $117M. Look, even if these numbers recede, this is far and away (no pun intended, Mr. Cruise) the biggest opening for the 3x Oscar nominated, super youthful blockbuster star Lady Gaga. See, industry, it certainly paid off for some studios to hold their movies during the pandemic until cinemas reopened.

Weld_E Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 Why isn't her song smashing them? Seems more like it's due to Tom Cruise. Maybe she should've featured him on the song for a smash.
Assassin Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 Shakira's Zootopia this is not since Shakira actually had a role in the movie unlike Gaga and her end credits song.

Once again it will be by FAR Tom Cruise's biggest opening weekend both domestically and abroad... far ahead of his long-suffering running Mission Impossible franchise
