Guns are horrible enough as it is, but we're not even talking guns here this is a freaking ASSAULT RIFFLE :deadbanana:

Can an American explain how this works? Genuine question as I'm very confused and the information online is rather overwhelming.

What is the reasoning they are giving for this, that literal war equipment is easily available to the public that an 18yo can just go buy 2 weapons of this calibre on his birthday? Why would anyone need such weapons in their daily lives under any circumstances?

Man..... I feel so ******* sick and disgusted. What kind of losers would try to shoot an innocent child? Prayers for the victims and their families..

This is how race can be abused by republicans.

People like her don't deserve to live, I'm sorry, but I'm not sorry.

This reads like a parody tweet :skull: I’m 99% sure every American politician is just an actor

  1. Gun manufacturers make a lot of money.
  2. They invest some of that money in politicians.
  3. These politicians are tasked with combatting gun restrictions so gun manufacturers can continue to profit.
  4. A shooting happens.
  5. Politicians working for gun manufacturers shut down cries for gun control.
  6. People become scared and buy more guns.
  7. Gun manufacturers make more money as a result.
  8. Gun manufacturers invest more money in politicians.
  9. Go to step 2.

Republicans are apologists for mass murderers, they already did it for child killers before with sandy hook. They are not prolife nor do they care about the children. They want everyone that isn't them dead.

The fact that they are trying to tie in trans people to this tragedy should let everyone know that they aren't well meaning or "have some points." These are boldface bad faith actors, no more leeway.

I mean yes I figured there's money and conflict of interests involved, but my question was specifically about the use of anything other than hand guns/pea guns and similar stuff.

A semi-automatic riffle is quite literally designed and intended for mass killing. You don't need these for hunting nor self-defense. How are they justifying the free selling of such weapons? This is completely mind blowing to me, how does anyone even think it is okay for equipment of this caliber to be anywhere at all outside of a warfront?

It's a culture thing. People like hunting. People like going to shooting ranges to relieve stress. And people like just owning guns for the sake out of it. There was a tragic story out of my state (Kentucky) YEARS ago where a young child (around 5 years old) accidentally killed their younger sibling with a gun their parents purchased for the child.

We just have a sick and gross toxic that just fetishizes the possession of guns. You also have to remember that violence in our media is not seen as a big deal. From what I understand, in other Western countries, sex is not seen as that taboo but violence is. It's the reverse here. Killing and violence is no big deal and is age appropriate in our movies, video games, and what not. Sex? Dropping the f-word (not the slur)? That will be a R-rating in the cinema. I grew up playing with toy guns and many young boys do. It's unfortunately engrained in our culture and is seen as American to own guns.

I've never owned a gun, but that's just where we're at. There's still a majority of Americans (albeit not a super strong majority) that support stricter gun laws. But, the loop I mentioned above is why nothing ever happens to that end.

This is disgusting. I don't understand what it will take for gun control to take place. It's really not that hard, look at how Australia handled it. RIP to everyone who died.

Thank you for the bit of insight. My mind just can't wrap around this whole thing.

It’s so engrained into us by being romanticized or fetishized through culture influence (country music, wanting to look tough, hunting, etc.) It’s really ridiculous and shouldn’t be like this. Thanks a lot GOP and the Second Amendment for creating a gun culture that is now impossible to get rid of.

Narcissism + Violence + Stupidity + Willful Ignorance + Weapons = USA

US is going through the earlier stages of a fall akin to the Roman Empire, and every clown in the country enables it

Dark money prevents this from happening. Many politicians in Congress are bought by gun rights groups like the NRA. Also the second amendment makes it difficult.

I’m legitimately spooked now about going to any pride events now. I just feel like with the recent rise of homophobia and transphobia, it’s hard to not imagine another Pulse scenario happening again :!ohno:

The media should really stop publicizing the "people" who do these things

Posted

Some of the families had give a DNA test to help them even be able to identify their child because the carnage was simply too much to see and made many of the babies unrecognizable.
