But according to a prominent Hollywood publicist who didn’t want their name used, those celebrities are already established and have relationships with DeGeneres and her team. Newer, up-and-coming talent, though, hasn’t been as excited to appear on the show. “Once upon a time, in the heyday of Ellen, that show was a career-defining booking for certain talent on the up and up, talent that were really trying to be a part of Hollywood in a big way,” the publicist told BuzzFeed News. “It was the daytime booking to get, and oftentimes led to late night–show opportunities and magazine covers. You would prioritize that because it was so meaningful and was so widely syndicated; it was a different level than booking the Today Show or Good Morning America. There was something about it that felt really premium that felt like you’d broken through and made it.”

But in the last couple of years, the publicist said DeGeneres’ “prestige wore off very quickly” and their clients preferred to be pitched to The Kelly Clarkson Show and The Drew Barrymore Show. “People don’t want to be associated with everything that emerged. People are being hyperaware of the alliances they build in this business, and it’s hard to sort of trade off and sell out, for lack of better words, a booking with a terrible person or someone perceived to be a terrible person,” they said, adding that celebrities had also become hesitant due to the potential for awkward interviews, citing the 2019 Johnson exchange.

“Hollywood knows what The Ellen Show was. People knew her and knew what the show was. It had a bad reputation — there’s no pulling the wool over anyone’s eyes in Hollywood,” one former employee told BuzzFeed News. “For the rest of middle America and the general viewing public, they probably bought into whatever’s being fed, but I don't think anyone in Hollywood is like, ‘Ellen is really awesome and those stories were just a fluke.’ I see it for what it is, which is a money-making machine. That’s all. She’s an entertainer and it’s complicated.”

it's a shame that everything around her are so toxic and fake. i used to enjoy the show (never watched MANY interviews -- only my faves one, so i never got the toxicity before reading about it)

The irony of Dakota (who i actually love as an actress) exposing Ellen and ruining her career when Dakota is the same women who defended rapist, pedos and cannibals cause they were nice to her and she thinks everyone deserves a chance to grow :rip:

It's not lost on me and I pointed that out when this all broke :coffee2:

Lmao the way that Dakota interview really was the beginning of the end for her.

I don’t  feel sorry for Ellen at all. She clearly learned nothing from the backlash and refuses to acknowledge her employees are part of the working class. She only cares about the wealthy class opinions.

Her downfall is ******* ruthless :rip: I don’t particularly like Ellen either but Jesus Christ the media really wants her to burn at the stake.

do you know how many nasty people are in Hollywood, but she’s being treated like satan. It’s… weird. She 100% pissed some important people off who told the media to absolutely destroy her reputation.

The Dakota interview starting off as a Twitter joke then remerging every 3 months with more and more people seeing it less as a joke and more as Ellen being terrible :ahh:

This is why I believe it was orchestrated. It's not like what she did wasn't awful, but the reactions and relative to other people that still have careers, it's strange lol,

*Allegedly*, she really pissed off a union with the issues with her workers, which could’ve been a big player in all the negative media too. This *allegedly* is also the reason Adele got so much onslaught of negative press with the Vegas fiasco.

Did it start from Dakota?

Well she built her whole image on being kind, nice and wholesome so it isn't surprising at all how fast she fell when the public saw what she's really like. The public just dropped her like a bomb when they saw how awful she is :rip:

Timing is perfect, Ellen is older now, MASSIVELY rich, and the world has CHANGED a lot since she was at her peak.

Let these people rot in their own misery and go enjoy your life Ellen.

Dakota is NOT a good person at all, so the nerve of her to begin with. girl bye

There's anonymous but direct quotes from sources for at least two stories of all the coverage that there were union members improperly treated on her show. Specifically the exec producers misleading her teams about Covid hours and pay when she went remote is what I'd argue truly set everything off (not even the harassment), and for good reason given how much she earns.

Knowing some of them (not specifically with her show), you do not **** with the majority of the Showbiz unions in LA or NY.

olivia did an interview with drew (which was a really good interview btw), kimmel & corden but never with ellen

she also performed on fallon & kimmel but not on ellen

I'm not surprised, unions don't play and they certainly don't give a flying **** about keeping up the facade of PR for someone like Ellen. She was powerful but not THAT powerful. Same with Adele, whose residency debacle is looking more and more like a career-ending mistake. It's probably the reason why she hasn't booked anything else, none want to work with her anymore.

I, too, prefer Kelly Clarkson over Ellen.

I know you all hate her but this whole thing is sad to me.

The rumors had been around for years. Her problem is she preached about kindness and was making hundreds of millions off that brand but it was all a lie. The fact that none of the major celebrities she worked with and had on her show never said anything says a lot.
