This decade already overshadowed the last 3, it has been insane but too impactful. So I think the 2010s will be completely overshadowed by this decade in the next 100 years. Wokeness in 2010? More like starting 2018 and on lol
OreGuy Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 Trump's regime and the whole political movement (BLM/Me Too) will surely be remembered. Fashion is kinda weird. From flashy outfits from early 10s to minimalist/elegant of late 10s. Music is a bit lukewarm. It was great at the first half but was barely breathing by the end of it I think mostly of mumble rap taking over the last few years of 10s. Pop culture about movies/tv will surely focus on GoT/Marvel movies and some horror classics here and there.
Just a Gay on ATRL Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 2010-2014 will be beloved and I can see an eventual comeback of dance-pop and EDM because of nostalgia. Maybe in the early 30s. I could also see people emulating the over-the-top, more campy and colorful looks that were popular at the start of this decade thanks to Lady Gaga. Besides the met gala, I feel like minimalism and baggy clothing is what Gen Z/Alpha is liking, the total opposite. People will say it was a simpler time, pre-Trump, more optimism for the future than nowadays. The Late 2010s will be remembered for trap-rap more than anything else. I think that sound is slowly dying out right now and by the 30s, will be "nostalgic". I think people will remember Future, Cardi B, Drake, Rae Sremmurd, Post. etc. Also, not trap rap, but female R&B albums like ANTI & CTRL really left their mark at this time as well. In terms of fashion and looks, big lips, tight sexy clothing, the IG look, basically. In hindsight, could 100% see the late 2010s being considered the beginning of the downfall of America w/ Trump's election & division growing deeply at this time. Just a generally more divisive time.

You could also read comments all over YouTube videos glorifying the 90s as the last good decade for music. I vividly recall people saying 2000s nostalgia would never become a thing, but it is now that we've distanced ourselves more from that decade. It's an endless cycle. Well compared to the 90s and 80s the 00s are getting way less nostalgic revisits, mostly because Gen Z relates that music/scene with “soccer moms”. I’m sure teenagers in the 00s thought the same thing about 80s hair bands but they mostly respected the 80s as THE 80s. The 00s and especially the 10s have never had that treatment, especially because the way people consume music has become so volatile and trends expire as soon as they arrive without leaving any footprint. The7thStranger Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 It will be very fun to see how the next generations reimagine such the 2010s, which really were an odd time. The recent 90s comeback made realize that we probably got as much wrong about the 60s as they do about the 90s.
Pop Life Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 (edited) I'm sure the first half, with its two hallmark genres of trap and EDM and its tacky and twee hipster/swag trends will be remembered and parodied. But pop culture in general definitely took a back seat to the Trump years during the second half. Even the fashion scene kind of kept its head down with forgettable normcore minimalism being thr order of the day. All in all, there was very little novelty outside of the political sphere. I suspect the spackled on, near-drag-queen-level makeup that was the Instagram uniform will be referenced, however. Edited May 23, 2022 by Pop Life
Power love Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 It’s simply too early to really know & some users are too young here to comment on this
Alldeezy Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 no! most of that decade is already forgettable! only good year was 2016.
Daddy Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 I feel like the 2010s have no character in comparison even tho so many things happened. The jump from mid-2000s to now is INSANE when it comes to technology, media and socio-economics.
Planet Mars Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 Threads like these are a perfect example to f the fact that most people can't objectively look into the past. The 2010's is another decade that came and went like the 00's, 90's, 80's etc. They're all much the same socially/culturally and musically it saw its own innovations and trends. The 2010's is a very distinctive and identifiable decade in culture, fashion and music. The only reason you all covet the 00's and 90's so much is because y'all were kids watching Disney without Bills and a credit score to keep track of. Calm down
Young Volcanoes Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 No, most of what happened in the 2010s is already forgotten. The music was awful and generic looking back. I was born in 2000 and was a teen during the 2010s but the 00s were still better in my opinion.
americanlife Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 Pretty sure people said the same about the 00s and 90s. Every decade will have nostalgia.
SlimyGhoul Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 Yes. Every year is remembered like that, it just doesn't seem like it at the moment because they literally *just* concluded.
