Not sure if you’re American or went to college, but a lot of times teachers in the humanities will reference pop culture in course titles or use materials from pop stars in culture. 
 

 

I took a gender studies class during undergrad to fulfill a writing requirement, and the class featured a lot of readings referencing pop culture.  This was one:
