Anyone that is getting second shots in the four-weeks-later timeframe went to a different clinic and made up that it was their first. Not sure what's happening in Canada, South America or Europe on this but someone can post that here.
Vermillion Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 And of course, like clockwork, I called it. Good luck Florida. Specifically, Miami, Orlando, and Tampa.
Bosque Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 Just fyi people, with vaccines it generally gives better long-term immunity to have more space between shots. So "cutting the line" to get a 2nd shot early is a pretty bad idea for everyone.

"I don't want to see a sick person" What a selfish attitude. If you can't do your job then find another job. What an absolutely disgusting thing to say to someone who put their life on the line helping people get through COVID.
BobBertran1992 Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 The absolute disregard for both monkeypox and Covid
TrueBlood Posted August 7, 2022 Posted August 7, 2022 Is the vaccine Jynneos actually effective against this monkeypox? Here in Italy they're starting to distribute the first doses to specific categories (mainly health workers and gays) and I'm starting to think to immediately ask for it.

Right now there's not a straightforward answer to that question. It's still too early and the data prior to this wasn't extensive to begin with. The 85% effectiveness rate is only based on animal studies to my knowledge, most of which will be useless at this point given the rate of sustained spread since May and the fact that there's already two strains of it from this recent spread outside Africa (if you include India, whose new strain hasn't gotten much international attention).

Thanks for the answer. And considering all of this, would you advise to get this vaccine? Considering it could be useless against monkeypox and these strains, I'm starting to think it's probably too early to even get it and I should maybe wait some more time. Leaving aside the fact that there are very few doses available as of now and they'll rightfully prioritize categories such as health workers or patients with immunodeficiency.
HeavyMetalAura Posted August 7, 2022 Posted August 7, 2022 I'm getting my vaccine today and I'm so nervous I know I'm very privileged and fortunate to have access to it, especially when availability is so low, but some of the post-vaccine stories I've heard have freaked me out. Pray for me y'all

Any update for Jynneos for various political reasons I can picture happening for Europe first and Europe getting first. Mostly due to the HHS in the States (despite being #1 right now I think over Spain) that is so focused on the Covid update for BA5 (they were barely able to get Congressional funding for to begin with) and with letting almost 20 million Jynneos doses expire. Does your concern about fairness outweigh the amount of sexually active gay men you're around on a weekly or monthly basis? I'd say MSM but that gets into sexual activity that remains anonymous including those that may be on the down low you don't know about so I'm not using that category here. Because I'm not weighing fairness in my decision here in the States as its the Wild West right now with a ton of people estimated to be getting monkeypox that aren't reporting it out of shame, fear, and confusion. I've lost track of the number of ER doctors and nurses posting on Twitter in the last two weeks who've found out their patients have monkeypox and insist they have no idea how they got it. I do not think Europe, let alone Italy, is getting a sufficiently updated Jynneos (or any other monkeypox) vaccine prior to the end of this calendar year. It's your call. I'm driving two hours up and back to my nearest city in the States that has them and I have no regrets about it even though I'm not around MSM or have multiple sexual partners at the moment. I blame the willful ignorance of the feds that don't care about MSM at all, let alone our general populous, to have let our entire stockpile of millions expire over the last decade. The majority of the shame here should go to them.

The majority of the shame here should go to them. The thing is, as of now, our government released some guidelines that are pretty restrictive. I may happen to have a chance at getting the first shot (don’t know about the second one, which isn’t even scheduled at the moment, it could be at the end of this month) due to being part of an important LGBTQI+ association that’s working close with our health department even though (as a cis gay man) I’m not even considered in the guidelines that consist of, and I’m quoting them, “healthcare workers that have or may have direct contact with infected patients OR any category that fits in the MSM that usually attends sex events or usually attends cruising clubs or practices chemsex, OR hiv+ patients” Apart from the stigma that may easily explode (there are numbers and statistics that are undeniable for sure but they need to be careful providing those numbers with the right context behind them), it’s all mainly focused on the sex aspect of the transmission, omitting other ways that may still happen, and they actually do. A friend of mine contracted it while in Spain on holidays, and he didn’t even kiss anyone, he just went to gay bars to simply have a drink. And that is the aspect of the disease that worries me the most, considering that, as a community, apart from our sex life, for obvious reasons we tend to have a closer circle of friends, bars we go drinking, clubs we go dancing etc. But if only 5k (that’s the actual number available in the whole country starting tomorrow) doses are available, there’s a major problem considering that number doesn’t even cover the healthcare workers alone. Hopefully things are going to change for the best, this whole situation is pretty ridiculous for something that, theoretically, should be WAAY easier to contain than Covid or any kind of “new” and “unseen” disease.
