Homophobic Muslim soccer player refuses to wear pro-LGBT rainbow jersey

I mean, if he's homophobic, then why would he be expected to wear it? That wouldn't be genuine at all. Let him proudly be the trash he is :giraffe:

Oh please shut up. No where Islam is trashing women. Just say men are the reasons why women aren’t respected at all.

Why is it always Islam being deffended by the woke but at the same time trashing cristianity for exactly the same thing? Like they're both exactly the same and islam is ultimately worse.

Are we gonna act like Christianity loves the gays? Lol

can't he just treat that as literal rainbow instead

Islam has already been a subject of harsh criticism no need to add more

What the hell is with this whataboutism I see again and again? It's a faulty argument

Who is saying Christianity loves the gays? Christianity is dragged to hell and back constantly. Both religions foster homophobic and sexist hatred and deserve to be called out. Nobody goes "what about Muslims??" when a Christian does something homophobic like :rip: love yourself

I think the difference is that it is mostly socially acceptable to criticise Christianity, and it’s homophobic/bigoted segments, but for whatever reason whenever people do the same for Islam you’re instantly labelled “islamaphobic” and called a bigot. I’m an ex-Muslim, with my entire family being Muslim and a lot of my childhood friends being Muslim, and I always found it so funny how it’s always non-Muslims who come to defend Islam and claim it’s not homophobic whilst actual Muslims have no shame in admitting that the religion is not for gay people and that it thinks being gay is sinful. Even Muslims thinks the pandering is odd whenever non-Muslims try and make out like Islam is pro-gay when it very obviously is not. :rip: Anyone shocked that these homophobic tweets are going viral on Muslim Twitter is probably one of those people who try and make out like Islam is this woke leftist religion when it’s incredibly conservative.

this narrative that only islam gets dragged when realistically it’s only socially acceptable to call out christianity without it being problematic :bunny:

religion sucks

Posted

a whole religion isn’t entitled to a opinion… i know some islamic countries give a death sentence for gays but that does not mean all 1.8 billion muslims in the world are homophobic. i know muslim allies and muslims part of the lgbt, and i know islam does not support it but that does not mean every single muslim is homophobic. the religion is literally about loving everyone and people like him aren’t following the religion.

I mean wearing it would contradict his religion, I'm not sure what y'all expect...

Abrahamic religions are discriminatory by definition. That guy is a hypocrite though.

Say it louder for the people in the back!

As a result the LGBT communities within Muslim majority countries end up suffering the most.

Every religious person always says this about their religion but we never get to see it. :rip: Obviously there's gay Muslims and allies, makes it even worse that they are participating in religion to me.

Religion kills. Cute art, some nice gowns but what it did to the world is heinous and disgusting. Literal cancer. (I'm talking all religion so don't try it)

Nobody is buying their fake kumbaya

i get where this is coming from, and many of them don’t practise what they preach. i do agree with what you’re saying and islam is creating a really bad environment to their countries. some people also use religion as a coping mechanism and have a close relationship with it, it is toxic at times but when you don’t use it in a hateful way and just do it to better yourself i don’t see it as that big of a problem. i completely understand your point and i do agree that religion is causing lots of harm to world

It's because Islamophobia is real and pervasive in the West, whereas Christianophobia is not.

Muslims are dehumanized by Western media and painted with broad strokes of the brush as anti-women and anti-LGBT.

If the football player had been Christian and a homophobe, then the title of the thread would not be "Christian homophobic football player refuses to wear jersey", it would be "Homophobic football player refuses to wear jersey".

So yes, the title of this thread is problematic.

Islamophobia exists and should be called out. No one said Islam is pro-gay, but it's all about framing.

i don’t have to assume anything, the way the girls talk about christianity and judaism is fundamentally different from how they critique islam. all three religions and many more are oppressive and rife with double standards but only one gets called barbaric.

idk about you but banning abortion, homophobia, racism, transphobia and pushing for child marriage laws (things pushed or promoted by self proclaimed christians) are just as vile as islam’s issues….they’re practically the same religion except one got the chance to “progress” while the other didn’t, and there’s an even bigger issue with that whole progress convo.

Exactly.

or maybe i just gave up bc y’all wouldn’t get it….

where in my original comment did i say or imply that islam was beyond reproach.  i’m queer and was raised muslim myself and i have a very complicated relationship with islam.  as much as i despise mainstream islamic rhetoric, i’m not going to sit by and let people generalize billions of people over things that have occurred and were largely excused in christian countries.

we can agree that muslim countries should be held accountable for their disgusting treatment of queer people but no one except people online have done the same to historically christian countries and organizations that spread homophobia and transphobia on a global scale via imperialism. the same historically christian countries have and are continuing to try and erase queer people through legislation.

i’m not defending islam and i don’t see how anyone could conclude that from actually reading my post. i found it very irritating when my post was simplified to a very tired talking point that implies that i have no issue with homophobia in islam because its something i personally deal with and have dealt with for a long time.
