luckystrike Posted September 17, 2022 Posted September 17, 2022 this is a very solid album, SAWAYAMA is miles better but I don't get the hate for HTG, it's a fun pop record!! Frankenstein, Holy and This Hell are probably my faves on initial listen
americanlife Posted September 17, 2022 Posted September 17, 2022 I like this better than SAWAYAMA, which I always thought was a mid album.
Sky Engineer Posted September 17, 2022 Posted September 17, 2022 Actually I'm heading a bit of girls aloud and t.A.T.u. Send my love to John really hits a core emotion. I wish my mum would get there one day

"the lack of sonic cohesion" -- wtf was Sawayama to you? I must have missed how perfectly STFU, Chosen Family, and Love Me 4 Me gel together. it's just not sticking... i have the exact same problem with Sawayama, the album lacks cohesion and it felt like two albums put into one so idk what point you were trying to make with that one but it didn’t succeed b+ for effort
Tyrion_LMG Posted September 17, 2022 Posted September 17, 2022 Thank god most negative reactions I’m reading are from this forum (pretends to be shocked).
Archetype Posted September 17, 2022 Posted September 17, 2022 Maybe this album would be better received by fans if SAWAYAMA wasn't so good and set such a high bar for her. I'm really let down by this album. It's very honest and she goes there with the vocals, but it's truly just generic. The lyrics are very genuine to her but the actual melodies and prodoctuon, for the most part, sound like they could be shopped around to other popstars.
Lazuli Posted September 17, 2022 Posted September 17, 2022 The intro of Your Age made me think which new BLACKPINK song was I listening to
JoeAg Posted September 17, 2022 Posted September 17, 2022 finally on my first listen! Minor Feelings is an amazing opening track, i just wish it were longer ?
JoeAg Posted September 17, 2022 Posted September 17, 2022 Holy (Til You Let Me Go) is sooooo 2011 radio hit lol

JoeAg Posted September 17, 2022 Posted September 17, 2022 the singles might really be my favorite things here omg… Imagining is really cool though! it’s giving manic episode at 3:30 am
KillingYourCareer Posted September 17, 2022 Posted September 17, 2022 I'm listening. It's very Ava Max'd. I felt her previous projects lacked life, they were well-executed pop music with no soul. This one conveys something, I like it!
JoeAg Posted September 17, 2022 Posted September 17, 2022 Send My Love to John is beautiful but for some reason the production feels like it has too much reverb, it’d sound way more timeless without it

This Hell and Hurricanes are the only 'basic' tracks here, and even Hurricanes pops a bit. I hated This Hell when it first came out, and I still don't love it, but it makes a lot more sense in the album. She's in her pop/rock BAG on Forgiveness and Phantom. The strongest part of the album is the mid-section, back-to-back-to-back-to-back bangers. Her voice is super strong. I just don't get the hate, at all. The album is inoffensive at worst. Feels like people are being extra hard on her for someeeeee mysterious reason. Is it because you can only sniff poppers to a few tracks? Is it because you have to reflect on your childhood trauma now when you were planning on getting fisted to skull crushing beats instead? She gave us a little bit of everything... It's an odd reception (outside of the critical acclaim, lol!). You nailed it. I don't get the hate either. She is glowing on this album. Some people criticize the cohesiveness of it, but only because she crossed so many genres. I don't understand this reaction at all since I rather listen to an album where every song is different than everything sounding the same. I also read a lot of comments that her music sounds outdated, which shows that those people have no idea what Rina is about. She is and was always about mixing influences from the 00s with modern elements.

Rina Sawayama never claimed to make avant-garde or experimental pop music this album is her most interesting and smoothly listenable yet!
JoeAg Posted September 17, 2022 Posted September 17, 2022 I’m really liking this actually. sure there’s nothing quite as punchy as XS or STFU, but that’s not what she was going for this time around! the first three singles are brilliant pop songs, and every song feels, at the least, solid
JoeAg Posted September 17, 2022 Posted September 17, 2022 To Be Alive kinda feels like her Animal (title track) moment
BeachRat Posted September 17, 2022 Posted September 17, 2022 this is basically a perfectly crafted pop album of 2022. how can you not see/hear this? what type of ear infection level you must be on? gurls....

Rider Posted September 17, 2022 Posted September 17, 2022 Imagining chorus is really giving me t.a.T.u.
BeachRat Posted September 17, 2022 Posted September 17, 2022 (edited) Flavor Of The Month kinda iconic and should have been a bonus track, maybe later on a deluxe Edited September 17, 2022 by BeachRat
