If Dynasty was on this record, you'd be calling the intro "CHEESY DISNEY MELODIES!!". Ironically, Dynasty is more CAMP and CHEESY than any of the pop-rock songs here, but cheese and camp are GOOD. Regardless of how you may personally feel about them, Hurricanes, Phantom and Catch Me in the Air are literally objectively all cut from the same pop-rock sonic cloth as Dynasty. I mean, Phantom and Hurricanes are LITERALLY made with the same team who did Dynasty. You hate Forgiveness but it's literally a song recorded originally for SAWAYAMA. Some of y'all serving cognitive dissonance unable to actually process what's being played into your ears. Edited September 16, 2022 by Communion
flower moon Posted September 16, 2022 Posted September 16, 2022 Dynasty's production and vocals are kinda better than anything on this I fear.

Harrier Posted September 16, 2022 Posted September 16, 2022 I will never accept the album cover, I picked up the Vinyl today and felt a bit ashamed purchasing a giant red douche
Ratchet ★ Posted September 16, 2022 Posted September 16, 2022 6.5 from pitchfork, expected tbh but we move
saucy Posted September 16, 2022 Posted September 16, 2022 Haven't listened to all the album yet but i'm really digging all the songs I hadn't heard yet

brooklyndaddy Posted September 16, 2022 Posted September 16, 2022 Why does it sound like she’s singing with her mouth closed on parts of Forgiveness? Anyway, I think I like this album? Not in love at all though. I don’t understand the direction, it feels like she just went with her instincts to write cheesy “damn this Disney movie ballad from 2004 ballad deserved better” type songs. Which is a cute idea I guess I just don’t really feel sold on its execution because the songs legitimately have great moments that do feel held back by the dramatics and kitchen sink production of it all. I think I need some time with it! But definitely some fun moments. Nothing is beating her prior work for me though - these songs feel bloated
brooklyndaddy Posted September 16, 2022 Posted September 16, 2022 Also - why is the high end on her vocals so overly compressed? It’s missing definition and sounds so clean that it’s lacking edge. Which is my problem with a lot of these songs… they’re not refined enough. The melodies and ideas are there but it’s so SO over the top and not in a cohesive or intentional sounding way
