EdgeofTeeth Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 She's 0/3 for me, the new songs sound cheap and half-baked compared to almost anything from Sawayama

State of Grace. Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 Finally listened to the title track. She's really 3/3 this era.
JDC Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 3/3 she can't miss, I'm loving everything, the music videos, the songs, the aesthetic... Of course the album is missing a XS but so far everything has been excellent.
JoanneActII Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 2.5/3 for me. the song i'm mixed about is hold the girl because i love the lyrics but the production is just okay.

Love Me 4 Me, Paradisin, Chosen Family, Tokyo Love Hotel, etc. Those songs + the new singles all have somewhat "cheesy" lyrics but her vocal performances and the messages behind them carry through well. Catch Me In The Air is probably the best example. Its a really beautiful tribute to her relationship with her mother and feels quite anthemic. Yeah but those songs aren't really about her family overtly (maybe except Paradisin). And the production at least gave it an edge I don't even think the new songs are childish, but singing about your childhood and family is just not intriguing to me personally
Chaos Angel Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 (edited) This Hell - 8.5/10 - BOP. Very clever meaning and so catchy. The production has a touch of ‘Beat It’. Grew on me quickly. Catch Me in the Air - 6.5/10 - It’s still good but my least favorite. The verses are strong, but the chorus is a bit monotonous. The outro is so good though. Hold the Girl - 10/10 - SOTY contender for me. I don’t understand the complaints in here. It never came off as cheesy to me but rather giving off a heartfelt sense of childhood innocence which is exactly in line with the song’s meaning. The vocals are on point and it honesty gets me emotional when relating it to my inner child. Overall it’s shaping up to be another strong album. Before the singles I wanted something darker toned but after hearing the material I’m fine with this lighter approach she’s taking. I like the themes so far and can see how all the songs may be tied together. Seeing her live for the second time in Nov, can’t wait. Edited August 4, 2022 by Chaos Angel
flower moon Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 Hmm the video was a bit lacklustre but the song has grown on me a little
halcyonday Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 yeah her lyricism is terrible and now also the h&m filler playlist instrumentals joining the cringe lyrics add up to a cute 0/3 so fear
Ratchet ★ Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 Someone better record it! I imagine it’s gonna be phantom since that’s the next single

eli's_rhythm Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 For me, “This Hell” is a 6-7, “CMITA” is an 8, and “Hold the Girl” is borderline unlistenable. The chorus is funereal and it has instantly forgettable production. I’m worried this will not come close to her debut.

Nico Robin Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 Call me basic or whatever but she's really doing it for me with this album so far. All singles are absolute bangers and I cant wait to hear the full thing. HTG might be SOTY...
SimpleKindofLife Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 I loathe This Hell but the other two bops are serving excellence. To me, This Hell sounds like BTW Gaga which is my least favorite album of hers, CMITA sounds like a Disney Channel banger, and HTG just sounds super British and mid-10s
Ratchet ★ Posted August 7, 2022 Posted August 7, 2022 Hurricanes is really good omg Just heard the full thing in her livestreamed set and I’m obsessed
