Konril Posted May 29 Share Posted May 29 So far a more palatable series than Jodie's by virtue that 15 and Ruby had great chemistry compared to 13, Ryan, Graham and Yaz. Space Babies: Too much running in the corridor story line for me. The Devil's Chord: I enjoyed this one, Jinkx was great. Boom: Premise was sorta great, but the ending was too cheesy. 73 Yards: I love the folk horror element of this, really love the genre shift. Surprise a Doctor-Lite episode so early in the series. Others may not like why it wasn't explained but I like it in this sorta horror-esque story. Kate kinda alludes it earlier that they deal with the extraterrestial but more on the supernatural lately. Spoiler I knew that Lindy was a ***** the moment she blocked the Doctor from her bubble but I did not expect her to kill Ricky and that plot twist of the survivors being all racists. Konril Posted June 1 Share Posted June 1 Dot and Bubble is such a Black Mirror episode. The setting and the color is so Nosedive coded. Also another Doctor and companion-lite episode, but this one is handled better than Love and Monsters. Lindy is such a megabitch huh? I was sympathetic of her at first because she's this spoiled, privileged kid that's so sheltered that just needed guidance but nope... she's totally unlikable and irredeemable with the rest of her kind. Such a unique episode in doing a character study. Every episode has such tonal differences this series and so far no such abysmal episode like Orphan 55. KFC Posted June 1 Share Posted June 1 (edited) I was so ready to drag the episode as being a boring, preachy, boomer-esque anti-influencer commentary but then the last few minutes happened Like @Augmented said, I could never give RTD too much praise (the first 30 minutes of the episode kinda dragged) but the ending was a very compelling watch and I'm impressed at the clues sprinkled through the episode in hindsight. Babies: Seems like it should of been a midseason 'filler-ish' episode. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. The Nanny voice-filtering gag was funny. I honestly thought when the Doctor was revealing/insinuating what the monster was made out of was c*m. I mean, a Baby space station, growing/preserving babies, like can you blame me? Chord: Highlight of the season so far. Jinx was great and I want to see more Maestro. We inherently saw how powerful the Toy Maker was by himself with his reality warping but Maestro seemed a bit toned back with the 'god-like powers' department. If the Doctor is going to be SHOOK at their presence, we need Maestro to further show just how devastating they can be by themselves, if that makes sense. Boom: A bit slow due to the nature of the characters bomb situation. Around the 15-20 minute mark it felt like the tension of the "will the bomb go off" was stretching itself thin. We ALL know that the Doctor wasn't ever going to die to a landmine, so the whole plot felt moot. And the character reactions of their loved ones getting smelted was strange. Like, "Oh no my dad/partner got tubed. I'm so sad!.....Ok I'm over it now ." Please writers, at least give our cast some time to marinate in the despair. 73 Yards: Another good episode. Felt very X-Files meets Doctor Who meets Supernatural/Torchwood. I'm happy to see Who going into more 'things that cant be explained by science/science-fiction'. Leaving why events happen vague but sprinkled with clues gives us viewers something to theorize and talk about is fun. Was it actual magic? Was it a curse? Was it a perception filter? Was it a alternate universe time loop? Who knows, but its neat to think about. Dot: I can see why its very divisive. On one hand, its very on the nose(dive) about todays youth and screen addiction, literally living in their own bubbles. But it makes up for it with its subtle-but-not-s0-subtle nods towards classism, racism, and privilege. I enjoyed the heel turn at the end of what is expected of story character arcs, as we expect characters to learn a lesson, but in this case no growth was made. Chord > 73 > Dot > Boom > Babies --- EDIT: Lemme add Rouge Rouge: Another good episode even though the mystery + villains were just okay. The super gay connection between the Doctor and Rouge was 10/10. Plot wise, sorta run-of-the-mill Doctor Who. Curious about how Susan Twist is gonna come around next episode. Side note: Can't believe I've been keeping up with Doctor Who the moment a new episode drops, I haven't done that with Jodie's Doctor because Chibnall's writing was atrocious.
