WalkAway Posted May 19, 2023 Posted May 19, 2023 Sweden should send Loreen again. The first person to win 3 times, back-to-back wins, Sweden with the most wins ever.

But I doubt Sweden would win 2 years in a row, so… send the Mamas or Felix Sandman. The last thing we need is Dotter and her manic fanbase Edited May 19, 2023 by abelfenty

Mikeymoonshine Posted May 19, 2023 Posted May 19, 2023 Sweden should send her again in like another ten years. People will have forgotten about this drama by then and I think she could win a third time.

illia Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 Kaarija's songs remind me of Russian Hardbass (complimentary)
little legend Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 Since we have basically 0 news and we wont get any news for the next months, lets discuss something. If juries existed from 1998 to 2008 , in which years you think we would had a different winner? Turkey probably wouldnt have won in 2003, Malta might have won in 2005 instead of Greece, Bosnia and Herzegovina or Russia could have won in 2006 cause the juries wouldnt have voted for Finland, maybe Israel wouldnt have won in 1998.

Not a different winner but 2007 would have been much more of a LANDSLIDE and Russia might have been the runner up over Ukraine / Verka.

So many iconic winners gone When you put it like that, it might the most convincing argument against juries

Dante Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 It just proves how before juries came in we had these legendary winners, classics that are remembered up to this day. Yet people (especially GP) don't remember some pretty recent winners, from the 2010s which won cause of the juries.
tbhmatt Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 I still can’t get over the fact that there were four Eurovision songs in the Top 10 of the official UK charts this week, for the first time ever. I think between Sam Ryder’s success in 2022 & Liverpool/BBC’s success in hosting this year, the public perception of Eurovision here is finally starting to shift. I think, sadly, from the 2000s onwards we stopped taking the contest seriously and people’s attitude towards it really soured. I’m truly hoping that the commercial success this year is going to encourage talented artists to take part. We have a wealth of musical talent in this country, the contest should no longer be viewed as a career death sentence. I hope the public continue to come round too, because that’s honestly been our biggest problem. Other countries don’t want to support us because we didn’t care enough, we made no effort & we didn’t show the contest the respect it deserves. I’m hoping that will now change, despite this year’s blip with Mae not scoring very well. For 2024 we need to ensure we focus on the vocals & how a song translates live on stage. For me, the answer is obvious but it’ll never happen.. we need to return to a national final competition. I don’t mean like the cheesy naff ones we did before, I mean a proper format. Multiple rounds, eliminations, in a live arena with a live crowd, involve both jury & public vote and also open up to international audiences. Almost every big contender has a similar format, the best way to stay competitive is to go down this route, as long it’s quality controlled and formatted in a way that doesn’t feel too cheesy or low budget. It’s the perfect way to find a competitive entry. We can vet out performers and get an idea of their vocal capacity & stage presence before-hand. We can engage the Eurovision fans across the continent (who are the ones who can actually vote for us) and it can build hype & create a narrative around our acts which will help in the actual contest. I know it won’t ever happen, but for me it’s the most sensible way forward. I’m sure the BBC won’t ever throw that much money in to it, but it would be such a joy for us Eurovision fans here to have something to get involved in pre-contest & a nice way to connect us more to the rest of Europe.

Alternatively, we remember many more of the songs competing besides the winners in this era of Eurovision. I couldn't tell you the names of any of the songs besides the winners for many of the 2000s era contests

Go on Youtube and check out these videos that have the entries of all 00s contests...90% is unlistenable garbage with a few gems here and there, but mostly lots of gimmicky bs to get the voter's attention. The voting sequences were the absolute worst with almost only neighbour/diaspora voting (so many people say with the juries this is even worse?? that's not true at all if you analyze how juries voted) Can't believe so many people want 'no juries' back.
