There really is so much deep rooted, casual misogyny in people's "commentary" on the female Eurovision acts. A lot of hypocrisy, such as

* Kaarija stans attacking Loreen for winning, not seeming "apologetic" enough for "stealing" his victory, the praise for Kaarija being "authentic" by expressing his disappointment at losing --> Loreen is basically SHAMED for being excited about her historic win, or on the flip side, attacked for not seeming excited ENOUGH. As a side note, where was this energy and discourse when Duncan won in 2019 over the televote winners, Keiino?

* "Noa Kirel isn't even singing in her recap video, this is a SONG contest not a dance contest" --> literal crickets about Moldova's recap this year being all dancing, no singing

* Too many instances of misogyny to count in the months long CRUSADE against Blanka

Nail > head.

This has been a thing for ages, especially from older Eurovision fans. Women are only appreciated when they’re super humble and kind, any other personality is made fun of or villified

And most of this misogyny comes from female Eurovision fans btw which is sad

Mans trying to decide between hosting the Eurovision and submitting a song to Melodifestivalen to equal the scores with Loreen.

What are the chances he gets the same hate as Loreen if he indeed wins again? :coffee:

So on a moderation side, I just want to say I really have enjoyed discussing Eurovision this season with everyone and I hope I made a difference in how y'all enjoy it here between pinning this thread and all the banners.

Now moving into a question - when do you all think I should unpin this thread and when do you think I should pin the 2024 thread?  Should it be up year round, or should we let things sit until December?

Pin them both. And keep this thread pinned until the new season. :cm:

Thank you for the banners, pinning this thread in the first place and a huge thanks for getting the site maintenance moved during the semis.

I would say you could unpin this thread in the next few days and for the 2024 thread it could be pinned in November/December when any rule changes and NF season ramps up. I think that is fair since the Eurovision threads generates the most engagement in Celebria overall.

I can’t remember if we did have banners for any of the NFs but it’d be cool to have. It might get excessive to banner them all so maybe in February when usually we have tons of them back to back.

Is loreen actually gonna get that number 1 or is that charts account just teasing us again? :rip:

I heard it was a pretty wide gap but I know a lot of people bought the track in the last couple of days to help her.

I think it would be too early to pin it now. I'd suggest waiting until the first reps are chosen.

She spent a few days at #1 on Spotify, iTunes, AM and YouTube. I think that would be doable?

I’m so happy to see ESC songs pull good numbers on Spotify. Hopefully it motivates other artists for next year.

Otherwise good post, but it was like 99% girls that left the bad comments on Blanka's pages in the past few months. And that was wrong ofc, but I don't think her being a woman was the problem there, but rather how Poland handled their national qualification. And Jann told people not to hate on her, so again it goes to the point of fandoms being toxic even if the artists have no issues with each other.

People criticizing the Polish jury system and now also the ESC  juries in itself wasn't an attack on Blanka or Loreen. It's unfortunate that some people have made it personal and needlessly attacked them, and not least because now we can't really have a proper debate over what changes could or should be made to the voting systems in the national selections and the main event.

Every year there's this bias that if people like the winner they think the system is great, but if they dislike them they think it's rigged. And you see it in politics too these days that every time people lose elections they call them rigged. People seem to forget that you don't really have to win the event to get a nice career boost out of it anyway. I'm just happy to see all the songs from this year's ESC getting a healthy amount of streams.

There was a lot of valid criticism towards Polish jury and to be honest I myself think it was rigged (maybe not because Blanka is an evil and homophobic supporter of Polish government but rather because she's under a big label and there's much more money spent on her) but at some point people started being really weird and mean and sexist to Blanka for sure.

Except for valid criticism, there were also a lot of comments saying that Blanka probably slept with someone to win the national selections, I saw ****-shaming comments regarding her Eurovision performance too. You also have to keep in mind that except for the Euro fandom (that wants the contest to keep its integrity) and Jann fans (who felt wronged) there was also a campaign against Blanka herself in Polish media who saw her as a representative of the government. The worst thing to me was when Ochman went on a late night show (in an anti-government TV station) and when asked about the whole situation, he said that he supported her, but then made fun of her appearance. He was asked about Edyta Górniak describing Blanka as "fresh" and said that he didn't really know what she talked about and that maybe she wasn't talking about her vocals but her lips and laughed at it with the host of the show... That was unnecessarily mean imo and all the people in the comments applauded him for keeping it "real" and saying what's on his mind.

On one hand I do think TVP is a mess and the national selection was rigged for whatever reason and that's not okay but on the other hand something about the hate Blanka received seemed off to me, I think it really was too much and I respect her for the way she handled it.

Spotify Global

#9 Tattoo (-1) (down 5.5%)

#13 Cha Cha Cha (-2) (down 8.9%)

people's winner widening the margin :clap3: though I think it's worth celebrating the runner-up is doing so well as well :clap3:

i mean, what song got WINNER Exposure and TTH/Spotify Playlists?

the ENGLISH Song is obviously more serviceable.. just like how BEGGIN and I WANNE BE YOUR SLAVE ended up as bigger smashes than Zitti E Buoni

that said, CHA CHA CHA doing really WELL :clap3:
