That's just it. it was a great melody. The song was decent. The studio was fine. Mae just couldn't cut it live.

I am sick and tired of this shitting on Croatia this year by the ESC fandom (people who know nothing or have extremely limited knowledge about and understanding of music and performance). Croatia and Let 3 deserved even MORE points from both the jury and the public because they had an actually interesting and highly intelligent composition. Moreover, they gave an entertaining avant-garde (for Eurovision) performance. Anyone who's actually studied--and I mean actually professionally studied--music (history, theory, composition, etc.) and drama for years knows how intricate, full of references, musical, visual, and lyrical, and perhaps most importantly how unique the Croatian song is. It is not for everyone, that is true, hence "only" 112 points from the public, but to say that that song did not deserve significantly more points from the so-called "professional" juries is utterly ignorant, in the full meaning of that word. Unique? Sure, I'll give you that. But everything else... not for me. We get it was meant to be a dig to Putin but the song is beyond repetitive and its structure is very chaotic to say the very least. And to top it all off, they were not very great performers. They weren't even in sync with the "choreography". That was bad, the reason why the public was behind this was the same as the reason why people voted for Verka, the Russian grannies, and so on. History repeat itself.
little legend Posted May 15, 2023 Posted May 15, 2023 I want Adele to participate for the UK next year and Gaga for Italy. And of course Gaga winning with breaking record points. I don't want RAI1 to host Eurovision again though

Maybe a Lewis Capedi or David Kushner because their so popular here Lewis is too big imo so it’d be a loss of income for him tbh maybe he’d do it on the condition of if he wins it must be hosted in Glasgow because he loves his city a lot. We will get a man for sure though.
ATRL Moderator khalyan Posted May 15, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted May 15, 2023 Realistically for the UK, someone like Mabel would be a good fit - previous (solo) success - ties to Sweden and the UK - can sing live - not too big to do the contest
little legend Posted May 15, 2023 Posted May 15, 2023 The massive backlash this year about the winner the is unprecedented. Just check all the social media from tik tok to Facebook, from insta to Twitter. Everyone is saying that Finland is robbed. And not it's not Kaarija's fans. There are millions of posts about this injustice. The GP is super mad with the results. Finland really won in the end

I Ooop The winning song has only 300k more streams than the second song That's embarrassing. Every year the winning song gets at least twice the streams of the second place song , cause it gets massive boost from the headlines.

IAmJustAKnee Posted May 15, 2023 Posted May 15, 2023 Can someone explain what the controversy with Poland is about? Also a little OT but is there anyone in here who knows what is up with Noa's international attempt? I remember "Please Don't Suck" was her first international single but how come Atlantic (or whoever) didn't do any proper pushes like what was the point of that? @ZIVERT do you know anything about this?
P!nk Forever Posted May 15, 2023 Posted May 15, 2023 My wishlist for 🇦🇹 -Mathea (Beauty like Lena, should maybe sing a song in german which hasn‘t been done in forever) -Ferdinand AKA Left Boy (Always wanted him when he was still doing English stuff, fun guy like Käärijä) -Anna-Sophie (the Austrian answer to Olivia Rodrigo) -Stefan Eigner (was in the same casting show as Teya and Salena and won it, incredible voice but only if he doesn‘t go the Vincent Bueno route) -Anna Buchegger (won Starmania in 2021, multitalented in playing the piano and good voice) -Paenda (unpopular opinion, but this girl is capable of much more than Limits, ESC 2019) -Melissa Naschenweng (girl sings in dialect and is the Austrian answer to Helene Fischer) -Leyya (alternative duo which could basically bring new layers to the contest and do something minimalistic) -Bilderbuch (crazy indie-band with charismatic singer) -Soap&Skin (female artist similar to Florence + the Machine)

Basically after the Polish national final happened there were mass allegations of TVP rigging it for Blanka because she won against a really popular song that dominated the televote, meanwhile the televote winner got shafted by the juries in favor of Blanka. This, in combination with the fact that Blanka (or her team, not really sure) had close connections with several of the jury members and the fact that she had TERRIBLE vocals and a mid song during the national final led to every Eurovision fan calling Blanka a TVP puppet and the national final results unfair Oh and there were also allegations of Blanka being homophobic but I'm not sure if they're more than just anecdotal.
anti-bitch Posted May 15, 2023 Posted May 15, 2023 @little legend It would be hilarious if Käärijä overtook Loreen in tomorrow's Spotify update People are being super defensive over Loreen here. And I love that woman too, but it's a good thing that other artists get some spotlight too. I hope Solo becomes a nice hit too, at least in the UK.

I'm pretty sure the two boy dancers on stage with Blanka were gay, lol. It would be crazy from someone like her to be homophobic, especially at Eurovision. But yeah, poor Jann. I hope he tries again next year.
Paola Bracho Posted May 15, 2023 Posted May 15, 2023 The fumes, the anger, the desperation! Tattoo keeps slaying for almost 2 months and it's reign ain't coming soon to an end. The televoting winner couldn't surpass the juries winner on streaming even after the whole exposure of being the biggest loser of the night! That speaks volumes on many things! Keep living in denial!
Dante Posted May 15, 2023 Posted May 15, 2023 Croatia kinda had one of the best uses of the LCD screens and backdrops and shiz. It really made the stage POP.
Delusional Posted May 15, 2023 Posted May 15, 2023 Tattoo sounds so good on full blast in my ears Spoiler I still wish Air won Melodifestivalien tho

JennyWayne Posted May 15, 2023 Posted May 15, 2023 Re the Spotify talk: I think playlisting is not an unimportant factor here. Tattoo for example has been on top of Hot Hits NL (Dutch equivalent of TTH with 800k+ followers) ever since the beginning of Eurovision week. Comparing their playlist reach could be interesting

The amount of hate Loreen has gotten due to all this is uncalled for; THAT is why we're being defensive. They can call out EBU all they want, but Loreen does not deserve any hate whatsoever. The song, its production and her talent speaks for itself.
POPTART Posted May 15, 2023 Posted May 15, 2023 Just for the comparison - Sweden got 160+ jury points over second place. Last year, the country that was that much behind the jury winner was Australia on the 9th place.

Oh but heard the people voted for Cha Cha Cha twice the amount of Tattoo. With that logic shouldn't Cha Cha Cha be 9M instead? Shouldn't this "backlash" have helped propel Cha Cha Cha even more if "it's all over social media"?
