It's an extremely formulaic song that can be almost exactly found on Ava Max's debut album when it comes to lyrics and sound the thing about Eurovision winners is, they always stand out in a way and set the mood for the following year. This is the first time in years I've felt that the contest isn't going forward - it's something we've completely already heard before. As you said it's a song contest, and Loreen's excellent performance abilities alone didn't make this otherwise very standard 2014'd dance pop song a winner in the eyes of the public of any participating country. you are so hung up on the "no 12 points!!" thing statistically speaking, most countries that would give Sweden high televote points would also give Finland high televote scores, so it's no surprise that Loreen had to settle for a lot of 10 points. they are still big points but you're continuing to act as if she got 0 points from the televote. for all we know, Kaarija might have received 5 more votes or 500,000 more votes in any given country that gave a 12 to him and a 10 to Loreen. this is like saying Iceland didn't deserve second place in 2009 because Norway took all their 12's. Turkey got more 12's than Iceland but came 4th. that's how math works.
ATRL Moderator khalyan Posted May 14, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted May 14, 2023 The juries need to expand to 15-20 members and they need to give detailed scores/rankings dependent on the criteria given. So if the criteria remains 1. Composition and originality of the song 2. Quality of the performance on stage 3. Vocal capacity of the performer(s) 4. Overall impression of the act Each juror should either rank the acts by each category and then have the results composited for them, or each juror should score the entry per guideline and have the results composited for them. It could help make the jurors seem less subjective. Imagine being able to look at the jury results and see that each juror in a specific country gave 5/5 points to originality and impression for Kaarija, and 1/5 points for vocal capacity. Or being able to see the jury gave Loreen 5/5 for quality of performance and vocal capacity, but 2/5 to originality. It would make the jury votes easier to understand and less likely to be influenced by outside factors.
OnlyManInTheWorld Posted May 14, 2023 Posted May 14, 2023 How can you finish about 130 points in televote behind the winner and still win the whole thing? I don’t mind Loreen and her song but come on…

It was clearly not a 5 votes' difference... millions of people voted and they're now angry for having their choice overturned by 185 randos who only reward radio-friendliness. And in all of this Loreen has no fault, of course.

iconicyayo Posted May 14, 2023 Posted May 14, 2023 abolishing the jury is a terrible idea. there was a period when there was no jury and people just voted for joke acts all the time. this meant that countries trying to showcase serious talent were always punished, they subsequently stopped trying and began sending horrible performers, and eurovision attained the joke label
abelfenty Posted May 14, 2023 Posted May 14, 2023 The way some people are acting it’s like Loreen came last in the televote or something I’ve been a Käärijä stan since the moment his song dropped, but c’mon. Loreen won fair and square. She’s not the first person to win without winning the televote either. The amount of reaching and conspiracies I’ve read today about her supposed “rigged” win

There's always been very pressed stans who try to come for the winner but the way there's so many people on the winners side this year that completely fail to see the points people are respectfully presenting about how they feel the jury vote heavily leaned towards a sweden win just by the margin between the jury winners points and second place. sweden must have flopped to 5th or 6th place in the televote for them not to win. the fact that the jury runner up israel couldn't even win if it had finlands televote points (one of the biggest ever) is ridiculous .
