Looking at the detailed Jury breakdown at https://eurovision.tv/event/liverpool-2023/grand-final/results

More often than not Sweden wasn't the landslide for the jurors but often in the top 3 so got the 12 points. Very rarely saw it outside of someone's top 10

Finland was either highly rated or completely bombed by individual jurors in most cases

San Marino jury's highest score for Finland being a 24th :deadbanana2: Some countries randomly stanning Australia :lmao:

Serbia Jury A giving Slovenia #1, Finland #2, and Sweden #15.. queerbaiting worked there!

Doesn't this just prove that the idea that it was rigged is nonsense? Tattoo just appealed very strongly to jurors. Probably because it's an accessible pop song that was performed by an incredibly strong performer. I think the year being quite strong overall ended up helping her a lot with the juries cos everyone had different faves but her performing skills meant she was consistently up there and usually got the 12.

So are we ready to accept the fact that this doll is the best thing that happened to Spain in decades when it comes to Eurovision??

She did what she HAD to do and that is give Spain the best result since 1995, so it's only downhill from here for them.

The fact that she managed to make everyone with flop taste SWITCH like the ******* they are, is bigger than anything else! But y'all are just not ready for that conversation i fear... :alexz2:

Yes, it shows that the Jury votes weren't rigged as the conspiracy theorists think. The weight of the jury compared to the televote is a separate matter. I know San Marino has a low population but using them as an example, if all 5 jury members give a song between 26th to 24th but that same song is then #1 on the televote for that country, that's just wild idk.

Loreen won within the rules of the contest, anyone who would disagree with that is an idiot. I think having a debate on the jury/televote system is healthy though. Even speaking to my friends in person yesterday they told me they voted for Cyprus because he was hot so I now agree we need juries but I think the weight could be changed slightly.

I don't think that's random, it's a very well-composed song musically with delicious guitars.

why is that wild? jury isn't there to agree with the public. should the UK jury have given Poland points just because UK public gave Poland 8 points?

I’m confused by this.  I’m not seeing a compelling need to change it from a 50-50 televote, juryvote split.

To win you basically need to win over the public and the critics and that seems fair.  I think it would cheapen the competition if whoever was hottest won for example.  Sometimes I disagree with the Jury (giving all those points to the UK last year) but also sometimes I disagree with the public (giving all those points to Moldova last year). I think they balance each other nicely.

Do you have any insight into 2021? I for some reason remember that being stronger than 2022 as well.

This year, Sweden won the jury vote by a landside and the public favorite would have had to basically get the maximum points on almost every country to counteract it. Keep in mind there are 180M-200M people watching the contest, and this year they introduced voting from all around the globe. What precedent does it send that the public would have to do an almost impossible feat to counteract the opinions of 100-180 musical professionals?

As I mentioned, the rest of the world was introduced this year to make other viewing countries feel welcome but the jury favorite stomped so hard that it felt in the end pretty pointless for those people to vote. That in itself looks bad on the contest especially since it was marketed that those countries can now vote in the contest. For that reason, I would bet they are at least looking at reviewing the current system. Who knows if they are actually changing it.

I get that this year is a very extreme case, after reading arguments on both sides and my own experience as I mentioned in the previous post. I agree we need a jury. I'm actually of the opinion that the jury should be in the semi-finals to maintain some sort of quality going into the final as we all know what a televote only system would look like however I would always maintain that the public should have a bigger say than the musical professionals. If that's what people pick up their phones and pay money to do.
