Blade Runner Posted May 15, 2023 Posted May 15, 2023 Does spanish sound weird/unpleasant to a certain demographic of europeans? I wanna know if that's a factor because I was rewatching last year's voting segment and A LOT of countries didn't give a SINGLE point to Chanel. That was odd.

Ugh I love watching her speak and interviews. Hopefully she does a documentary of her new album or something!

In Blanca's case, she was just way too artistic and talented for Europe. They simply weren't ready. Edited May 15, 2023 by Betty White

People wanna see a good show. People spoke when they voted and Käärijä cleared that. There's this level of elitism that's coming from the Loreen stans that's kinda off-putting. And I deffo prefer Loreen over Käärijä as an artist, but still. Trying to discredit the public ESC vote with some Spotify stats is just weird behavior, but I guess typical ATRL.

I've been watching Eurovision for 20 years and following online discourse for 15. there's always something to complain about. it always blows over.

But instead of having meltdowns, people should just be supporting the song instead? The song broke Spotify records in Finland, but it's not going to be bigger than Tattoo overall.

I just disagreed with the way you said that "people have spoken," when Käärijä is definitely a more visual entertainer and you don't get that on Spotify. I read he's thinking about doing a tour in Europe now.
ZIVERT Posted May 15, 2023 Posted May 15, 2023 One thing we can all unanimously agree on is that Loreen ENDED Blanca Paloma. Catch it!
CBC Posted May 15, 2023 Posted May 15, 2023 The difference in televotes between Sweden and Finland is bigger than Spain's total score btw
ATRL Moderator khalyan Posted May 15, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted May 15, 2023 I think overall Loreen and Kaarija are a great top two, they are both having great successes immediately after the show and I hope it continues for both of them!

Solaria Posted May 15, 2023 Posted May 15, 2023 The hate for Blanca Pallahoma needs to stop, yes they flopped with the tele but I’m glad Spain had the nerve to send an entry like this after years of very mediocre songs, hopefully they will keep this level of artistic quality up in Benidorm

You see it everywhere in all fields of entertainment right now. Everything is becoming more casual. Loreen is undeniably talented but maybe a bit distant and so serious compared to Käärijä. My country gave 10 televote points to yours while Sweden only got 2

It's an extremely formulaic song that can be almost exactly found on Ava Max's debut album when it comes to lyrics and sound the thing about Eurovision winners is, they always stand out in a way and set the mood for the following year. This is the first time in years I've felt that the contest isn't going forward - it's something we've completely already heard before. As you said it's a song contest, and Loreen's excellent performance abilities alone didn't make this otherwise very standard 2014'd dance pop song a winner in the eyes of the public of any participating country. How did Toy push the contest forward? Or Only Teardrops? Or Heroes? Or Arcade? These are all examples of songs that have either a sound that has already won in the past and arguably better, or in the case of Toy have been panned by Eurovision fans and are now considered to be one of the worst winners of the 2010s decade. You don't always have to reinvent the wheel to have a good song and perfomance. Edited May 15, 2023 by Love Again
Aquamarine Posted May 15, 2023 Posted May 15, 2023 Blanca Paloma's performance was better than Tattoo and Cha Cha Cha combined though

Ever since then, all these type of performers usually became top3-top5 like ani lorak, hedise, chanel, eleni foureira, noa this year for Israel. Its a shame

Its a shame Yup, the female pop songs tend to do very well within the direct ESC bubble on Twitter but when it comes to the GP voting and other institutions like OGAE they usually fall behind in 3rd place or just a top 10 position. Which imo, is fine. I don't think we'll ever have a female choreographed winner like Helena or Sertab again because the current musical climate just doesn't really allow songs like that to completely win over the televote. Even Moldova in 2022 got more tele than Chanel and they likely would have been ahead of Chanel as well if it the war hadn't happen.
