Mikeymoonshine Posted May 14, 2023 Posted May 14, 2023 It's no good pretending there isn't an unreasonable backlash when every post about Loreen's win is full of hateful comments about her. This didn't happen to Duncan Lawrence from what i recall who didn't win the televote or the juries, he came second in both. Several winners didn't win the televote. Again I get that it's disappointing when an act gets a landslide of public votes and doesn't win but these rules aren't new. Everyone knew how it worked, that's part of why Loreen was the favourite and everyone thought she was going to win because she was obviously going to do well with the juries and with the public.

Netta and Jamala are still remembered fondly and loved, and things won't change for Loreen, one of the most beloved Eurovision acts of all time, just because fans of the runner-up are spewing hate towards her.

As someone who was lashing Netta when she won. I can only speak for myself but it had nothing to do with gender and everything to do with her being Israeli. That said I do agree that these artists get backlash because they are women, this year however is particularly amplified because the runner up is a man (compared to Dami, Eleni) so obviously everyone is going to come out of the woodwork to piss on Loreen's leg to make Kaarija smell better

This didn't happen to Duncan Lawrence from what i recall who didn't win the televote or the juries, he came second in both. Several winners didn't win the televote. Yeah it's pretty upsetting how people are turning on Loreen, one of the greatest and most talented winners. A person who actually cares about others and devotes a lot of her time to activism. The year she won she was the only act to meet with the protestors in Azerbaijan and she spoke out against their government's human rights abuses even though it could have gotten her disqualified. I've seen so many posts attacking her personally and all in defense of a guy who has already said the better act won. I do think they need to alter the jury system somehow but the fans also need to grow up and accept the result.

Duncan had some backlash, but in his favor his biggest competition came from Sweden and Italy, who Duncan beat in both the jury and the televote. Nobody was expecting North Macedonia nor Norway to actually be competition to him. 6 minutes ago, kimberly said: because he is a man. this backlash has happened to Netta and Jamala before, nothing new. there's definitely a lot of underlying misogyny in the response to Eurovision winners, our last two female winners have also received unreasonable hate. the hate is really coming from people obsessed with Eurovision for the most part. It's really not misogyny if people were upset at Netta because they thought Eleni should have won, or if people were upset at Jamala because they thought Dami should have won.
DUA LIPA Posted May 14, 2023 Posted May 14, 2023 tattoo's always going to be remembered as the winner without a single douze points from the public, i fear
