Spain was 3rd in the juries and the televote, Ukraine was a non factor in the juries and ranked right within their deserved spot, while they swept the televote. The UK was 5th in the televote, those Ukrainian points in the televote would've spread out equally to Moldova, Spain and Serbia making Spain the winner.

I thought we settled this topic when the split results were released :toofunny3:

We settled this topic by stating the obvious - that the 2nd place finisher would have won without the 1st place finisher being involved :toofunny2:

How is that obvious? I'm talking basic data statistics and maths here not some hopeful wishing or winning preferences. :pancake:

The UK was first in the jury vote while 5th in the televote. Spain was 3rd both by the juries and the televote. If the 1st place finisher wasn't involved (or let's say, was ranked within its range had we not been in the political context we were at)- those 439 televote points would've been spread out more equally mainly to the Top 5/10, and while Moldova got more televote points than Spain, Spain being higher with the juries would've made Chanel 2nd in the televote and therefore the winner as the final difference with the UK was only 7 points.

Doing the math, if you give Spain and United Kingdom the percentage of points they won in each tele/jury while removing Ukraine, Spain would get an additional 61 points and the UK would get an additional 57 points.  That would make the final numbers 523 for United Kingdom, and 520 for Spain.  Glad we figured out once of all that yes, UK would be the winner if Ukraine wasn't involved.

Will see how that rumored hispanovision turns out. I think it can be successful I mean just imagine the mess of a latin american + spain contest. I mean the USA could technically participate too since they have so many spanish speakers. Twitter would be a mess but also a kii

Why would you remove Ukraine? And why are you even mentioning jury votes? No one's saying all those 439 points would've gone to either of them because, realistically, Ukraine would've still gotten enough points to be in the Top 10, given that the song wasn't bad at all (and even if it didn't end in the Top 10, your logic still  wouldn't work, as some other user has just mentioned above). That's what I implied in my post. We can only do an approximation followed by voting trends (which is EXACTLY how the EBU came up with the faux jury votes for Poland, Azerbaijan, San Marino, etc) and looking at how the televote and juries went for the rest, objectively and statistically, if Ukraine hadn't had such massive televote points, Spain would've ended up with more points than the UK overall because they placed way higher in the televote even with Ukraine snatching almost 1/3rd of the total televote points.

Also I love that it's been almost a year and you're still dragging on your general dislike for Chanel and the fact she ended up outdoing everyone's expectations here and you do so by finding every way you can to try and diminish her accomplishment. It's just so transparent at this point. :rip:

I don’t even dislike Chanel, just the Spanish fans with their wishful thinking :cm:

If you don’t remove Ukraine, then you cannot say with any certainty how the voting would have gone.  Ukraine could have still won, just not as drastically.

Looking at the math and removing all bias ends up with a UK victory and that’s pretty definite.

Out of the finnish songs I've heard I prefer Robin Packalen's song, but I see Cha Cha Cha doing better in Eurovision. It's stands out and will probably receive many points from televoters. A potential winner.

Spain's song is underwhelming.

I'm looking forward to hearing Marco Mengoni and Elodie's Sanremo songs.

Another Sanremo song I'm anticipating is 'Made in Italy' by Rosa Chemical. I've had his previous single, non è normale, which bombed in Italy, on constant repeat.

It's either a middle of the road entry for them or something that could either smash or flop.  I think Cha Cha Cha is the obvious decision to make and the risk is worth it.

Just saw the news about American Song Contest and I'm not surprised.  I never watched it although the winning song was kinda cute.  But the fun part of Eurovision (for me) is that the actual contest is a week long incredible spectacle and not a months long dragged out season.  I know American viewers wouldn't really respond to that, but they should have gone all in and done the season in two weeks so there would just a little extra time to deal with the amount of entries but otherwise try to keep it as Eurovision as possible.

congrats to Czechia

with the right staging this could be top 5 easily or even top 3 :clap3:

Czechia is a bit overhyped methinks  It's most likely Q tho, unless they mess up the staging.

Still can't get over Masterpiece being snubbed like that
