I definitely think that ESC should be rethought and changed.

The 2 semifinals have 0 TV impact and the fact that there are always 5 countries left outside makes it unfair and silly.

I would make a semifinal a the week before, where EVERY country had to perform, and eliminate half of the constestants voting between them performers, for example (to make a twist).

And then make a final with just about 15 contestants with more info about them, explain the songs, rehearsals....etc... and giving the points more importance, for me it would be nicer if all of the songs received points, so that not only the first 10 countries receive points, sometimes those little points make a difference, and I don't think that #11 is that far away from Top5 most of the times... Maybe 1 point for #15, 2 for #14.... and maybe the top 5 could get 2 points per position, instead of 1.

#15 - 1 point

#14 - 2 points

#13 - 3 points

#12 - 4 points

#11 - 5 points

#10 - 6 points

#9 - 7 points

#8 - 8 points

#7 - 9 points

#6 - 10 points

#5 - 12 points

#4 - 14 points

#3 - 16 points

#2 - 18 points

#1 - 20 points

Also I think the jury vote should be weighted less... and maybe just give from 1 to 5 points

I always liked Cyprus.... and eventho I dont agree with that much backing track and all around his voice... the staging is BEAUTIFUL... and he is coming for that top10 in both jury and televote I fear

this would literally chop the final ratings in half. your version of the semi final (where everyone performs) would become the main event. so they'd go back to square one, pre-2004 style.

had to check out Armenia, since I had heard about the "dance break" situation. I don't think it particularly elevates the performance or song, but I can understand why they'd go for this especially considering they're performing second. Armenia is giving me Grand Final Top 10 energy, hopefully it'll qualify with ease.

UK - bottom 5.

The only changes I want to see are the Jury weighed less (or completely abolished) and that the Big 5 don't automatically qualify for the finals. The latter definitely won't happen without them having a meltdown but all of those countries have had some high placements since 2010 so they can't use the Eastern Europe votes for each other excuse  :cm:

By the way... the drance breakdown from poland feels SO UNDERWHELMING after seeing Israel's the other day....

But... I have a feeling that 'Solo' will be the hit that comes out of ESC 2023. It's very cacthy and perfect for little skits

No way. Without their funding the contest would be nothing

I actually like having the juries :gaycat6: televote-only really limits certain countries who don't have prominent diaspora or neighborly relations and helps those that do. that's how Dima Bilan came 2nd in 2006 and 1st in 2008 with two very dreadful songs, for example.

I think jury does a good job balancing things out and voting sequences have been so much more EXCITING to watch ever since they decided to go for Melfest style televote reveals. Because jury votes are much more unpredictable.

Jury vote balances out... but they have too much weight.

It should be a smaller part of the total points

Can you imagine if they got rid of the Juries now, literally everyone would just start putting dance breaks. I saw a tweet saying Estonia needs one too :deadbanana4:

Also it would ruin the really good voting reveal in the final

Reducing the jury voting is not the right move. The 50/50 split works fine. The last thing we need is entries like Croatia this year at the top of the scoreboard every year

Well, they should still be encouraged to send some form of quality and should be punished if they send the **** the UK did almost every time since the millennium. I know it's never gonna change because of financial reasons :coffee2:

This year is the year I feel all of the big 5 really tried to bring something so I hope they continue to try.

I get it's a double-edged sword since countries would be encouraged to send less ballads and more upbeat, memorable, and nowadays memeable songs too to bait televoters which can get out of hand quickly. It's hard to trust juries since we've had several attempts over the years of manipulating the jury votes since it's easier and it holds 50% weight.

I like the UMK approach where there's a jury but it is weighed less than the public.

Spoiler

Maybe I'm being biased since I'm fearful of Finland getting tanked by the Juries on Saturday :lmao:

I wouldn't change the 50/50 voting system but I'd like to see the artists pulling out a random number of the box instead of the Half in which they're performing, tho :dies:

Random running orders SUCKED hard and we learned that the hard way. Be real yall.

They should maybe draw thirds instead of halves (1-9, 10-17, 18-26) so that there's less room for rigging, but producer-made RO needs to stay. Not to mention the complexity of the stagings nowadays would make random RO a nightmare for the production.

Yeah, people seem to complain about everything but are not willing to think about the potential consequences. Big 5 and allocation draw are there for a reason, no need to change it.
