Kendrick uses F-slur in song

Recommended Posts

I'm not a hundred percent sure where to land on this issue but I am a bit confused when the same people who say the n-word and f-slur can't be compared are the same people to say to truly listen to the message of the song and that the intent on context make it ok but ignore the fact that the song seems to end on the message that they are equivalent enough to not use them if you don't belong to the respective group? The last line of the songs quite explicitly say that if you don't want white people saying the n-word, non-gay people shouldn't say the f-slur. That's why I find it kind of strange that so many people in here are mocking people who are offended by his usage and say it can't be compared to the n-word are the same people who say the song's message justifies the usage but they ignore the other half of the message contradicting their position.

That first comment spilled too:

"One cannot be considered a lyrical genius if they cannot convey their message without using offensive slurs."

She let that waterfall and kept it real 100 100

Should we be shocked that people have no interest in dissecting the words of a black artist?

What do you have to say about black queer people who are offended by this?

The tour shall be interesting when this song is performed that’s all I’m gonna say.

It's very weird how they act like they don't exist. Trying to call out supposed racism while being kinda racist.

:ahh: tbh this. Imagine the entire crowd singing that word.

op:

honestly I’m used to this. In my country, the *** is used to call somebody “ mate, buddy” so it has this very “friendly”vibe. I know it’s weird but it’s too common. So a straight man using the *** isn’t shocking nor offensive to me

The pearl clutching over the possibility of some fans screaming f****t during a few finite tour dates rather than understanding the potential for discourse and permanent growth amongst those with less tolerance.. just missing the forest for the trees so many of you.

Beautiful song. Brilliant album.

Wondering how this thread would be looking like if any rap girl did this

As far as I can tell, he's NOT LGBT+ so he has no right to use the f slur, just like a non-Black person doesn't have the right to use the n-slur.

Lol Nicki's known for her *** bar here. You must be new :jonny2:. It's also repeated by people who don't even listen to her.

The context is different tho :bunny:

Ecuadorian. And yes, I have a lot of venezuelan friends who use it too so that must be a Latin American thing I guess? Lol

I was so confident you would say yes but then I remembered colombians also use that word in a "friendly way", lol.

Well the three countries are neighbors so it makes sense. It must have something to do with the culture

Yeah, and even though you're right about the word not having as much of a negative connotation as the word ***, there is a variation of it that really does... The one that ends with N.

But anyway lol

To the people saying 'iF yOuR fAv DiD tHiS' -- just shut up. There's no reason. Let's not be dismissive of the actual issue at hand.

As a fan, Kendrick could have made a very powerful statement without resorting to using a slur against the LGBTQ+ community seven times. If you think anyone's going to make growth or progress by listening to that song, you're dead wrong. You've just got a bunch of cisheteros running around thinking they have an excuse.

"Well, Kendrick said it and everyone says he's one of the greatest lyricists of all time."
If you have to resort to dropping the *** S E V E N times and couldn't think of a better colloquialism, you aren't that great of a lyricist. Sorry. That's the truth.

Posted

My main issue with the song is that it's clearly aimed at straight cis people. As a trans woman, I don't really feel comfortable listening to him misgendering his family member because it's triggering due to my family also refusing to use the right pronouns. Gay men probably feel equally uncomfortable hearing the *** several times. Whatever his intent is, I just don't think it's meant for us.

Well, I am not trans, but as a gay man, I don't think I have ever been offended by that word. But I'm a tough cookie anyways.

You’re the only troll in here, actually.

You’re so quick to co-sign the very few people that agree with you, but turn a blind eye or straight up gaslight the numerous users who don’t. Do better.

I bet if it's Gaga or Doja saying the ***  these people will be "Yassss Queen, call me the ***"

Aren’t you a Swiftie? Weren’t you all “yass”-ing and “big slay”-ing about Taylor calling her ex boyfriend gay as a drag just last year? :rip: very gross behavior from her in 2008, a time when Gaga would NEVER have said something like that.

No offense, but please know when to keep your mouth shut. OT: Kendrick is vile.

proof?

which song are you talking about? because Picture To Burn was released in 2006, so long ago

sis, this random drag you sent to me is proof you lack of comprehension :deadbanana4:

I talk about gays bias towards female artists in general

Gaga fans, stop taking anything personal

There’s actually not a lack of comprehension. It seems you’re the one who is lacking it.
Regardless of the year it came out, Taylor went as far as changing the lyric because she understood it was harmful— and calling someone “gay” is arguably more tame than using a straight up slur.

Not you continuing to prove the points being made by this vapid response though.
