This is domestic (US) only. Only 1/4 of Avatar's gross is from US.

The fact Force Awakens almost made a 1 billion in the US and still barely missed the top 10.

there's no way to do global adjusted for inflation, given the different rates for every country in the world...

Avatar is #15

It's above Avengers: Endgame

I mean...it's still the 4th highest grossing movie ever in the USA behind 2 MCU movies and a Star Wars movie. But the 3D thing gave it a huge boost as well.

The thing is, the movie was huge in China, where it grossed over 260M, Japan, France, UK, Germany it grossed between 200 and 150, etc...it was a worldwide phenomenon

OT: good list.

great list :clap3:

Gone With The Wind is problematic, and definitely has to be properly framed when viewed, but it’s a fantastic film with a fantastic history. A true Hollywood legend

It's the 2nd biggest Star Wars film outselling Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, still pretty impressive

Most of the movies in the top 10 have been re-released multiple times in multiple DECADES :rip: Especially Gone with the Wind

Never made sense when people use this list to downplay the current highest grossing films

Especially when the older films didn't have to deal with piracy, streaming, etc. and people could only watch the films in a theater in its initial run or subsequent re-releases, no DVDs/Blu-ray back then

Titanic and Jaws :jonny5:

Because it depicted a historical era? :michael:

gone with the wind is sexist too, the marital rape scene and the abusive relationship depicted was gross but it's still an oddly entertaining film to watch and i usually hate romance movies :rip:

the ten commandments is the true classic here though, still holds up to this day

box office mojo is so disgusting for what they did

This. These numbers are very impressive but context matters.
