Galah Posted May 15, 2022 Posted May 15, 2022 I'd like to echo that if anyone is struggling and would like to talk about what is inhibiting them creatively or otherwise, the GH panel are here for you either publicly or privately! Otherwise, you have 5 days, which is plenty of time for inspiration to strike or to research and develop some potential concepts. Most importantly, remember to have fun with it!
TruGemini Posted May 15, 2022 Posted May 15, 2022 Had this saved on my PC but never sent it sksks. Β 1. Tell us a little about yourself (preferred name, pronouns, etc.) Β I'm Gemini! I accept any pronoun (besides "it" because that sounds out of orderΒ ) I've been writing my whole life, but just took up songwriting about 9 or 10 years ago. The process from song conception to completion is so rewarding. Β 2. What is your previous experience with song writing? Β I mostly just write for myself, but I plan on changing that within the next yearΒ Β 3. Who are your favourite song writers? Β Off the top of my head...Missy Elliot, the way that she puts words together is just insane. Rap is a very hard genre for many to do well because the structure is just fundamentally more complex, but the way that Missy consistently elevates the genre with her flow and intricate patterns is iconic to me. Β I've also always loved Floetry, particularly Marsha Ambrosius. Really personal songwriting is obviously not unique to her, but the way she can connect her personal stories to the listener is masterful. Β 4. List some examples of your favourite lyrics and the best written songs in your opinion. Β Quote Ten times out of nine, I know you're lying But nine times outta ten, I know you're trying So I'm trying to be fair And you're trying to be there and to care Now, this isn't the most eloquent or complex lyric in the world, but something about those lyrics has inspired me so much over the years. Love Drought is a MASTERPIECE. Β When it comes to songs, I have one very RANDOM choice that comes to mind. It's When It Falls by Jeff and Casey Williams, from the RWBY Volume 3 Soundtrack. Now, if you do not watch this show, this song doesn't really hit the same. But if you DO, the foreshadowing of the seasons events are hidden throughout the song and it's so satisfying to analyze every line in retrospect to see how it coincides with the events of V3.Β Β They are probably only in my mind because of recency bias, but Dominos by Lorde and Everything by Kehlani both leap into my head instantly. I have a weird attraction to when artists flip fairly standard common things and make them into these fairly deep songs. Godzilla by Kesha is another example of this, Lemonade by Gucci Mane is also another example of this but obviously in a very different wayΒ Β 5. What are some of your main sources of creative inspiration? Β Hearing other music, to be completely honest. There are so many times where I'll hear another writer's work and instantly be inspired to create something of my own. It's one of the reasons I'm so excited to play this game. Β 6. Lastly, feel free you share some examples of your writing! Β This isn't serious but I very recentlyΒ found a song I wrote when I was a freshman in high school, and honestly, it's cringe but it's not horrible Β Quote We all worried bout the dark light, black white, highkey, lowkey, nonsense, on me Everybody, stay down, stay sound, steer clear, bombs here, been here, **** fear They all steady be competing for the trending topic, fame is their conduit so it seems like their only option They wanna get inside our TVs to be extra popping, they don't realize that it's a setup, they trapped in our locket Or in our lockscreens, or on our timelines, maybe a poster They so naive, they don't get it, they got me going loca They armed and dangerous, anguish is what they hanging with They on some Jason ****, slaying **** but be faking it Then when the darkness comes they don't know how to vanquish it They pop a bottle, or crush a xannie, then melt a stone Suddenly they look up, at what's up, find out they've lost it all Look down in despair, no repairs, no one's but you involved Β Very much screams 2014-2015 but I have some nostalgia for it.

I really like the songs that you mentioned for their lyrics. Like you said itβs very interesting when a song goes in a direction that you donβt expect and has a kinda twist to it, like Godzilla by Kesha. These types of songs are usually overlooked because they are a little left field but personally I really appreciate that and Iβm glad you pointed these songs out! If the lyrics you shared was you not being serious, then I canβt wait to see what you serve when you are being serious. I think what you wrote has a lot of energy to it, I mean just reading it the song really leaps off the page because of how stylistic it is. The lyrics themselves seem quite tongue in cheek and it can be a very hard thing to pull off, but I think you are doing it, I donβt know if you always write like this but as an example of your writing this was very cool to see! I really appreciate this take on song writing and I also believe it may be a style that is more unique in terms of standing out against other submissions, so again it will be very interesting to see what you deliver based on this! Iβm excited to read what you submitΒ

As it is thereβs still plenty of opportunity, so donβt feel like you have to rush to start something new. I would personally say to maybe sit with what you have a little longer, flesh it out a bit more if you can and if you are still in doubt after that you could then explore other options I think. While some people have already submitted, thereβs absolutely nothing wrong with using all the time given (itβs moreso recommended to, really)

Portraying the element of water through honey is actually such an interesting take, in that they are both liquids but obviously totally different consistency, I donβt know if thatβs something youβve touched on but when I think about it that is a unique and interesting perspective. Whether honey is just meant to represent water, or whether looking at the similarities and differences between the two metaphorically, it honestly sounds very fun and pretty. Definitely looking forward to reading it!Β
