it could have a little more cultural influence, the only two real uses are the โ€œland of opportunityโ€ and โ€œAmerican dreamโ€ lines, so more specificity or uniqueness in terms of looking at this through an American lens could have occurred

I mean, I wasnโ€™t going to shoehorn in a bunch of โ€œAmerica!1!โ€ references because American culture was only intended to be a backdrop to the song, which is really about smalltown (and queer) cultureโ€ฆ which your review suggests I captured the feeling of quite wellโ€ฆ

You have a tougher job being from that hell hole, yes, but if the song wasnโ€™t focusing on ethnicity then I specifically asked for:

songs inspired by your nationality and the country that you are from, so long as the song includes specific and unique cultural traits as a focus

You shouldnโ€™t worry too much as I donโ€™t think itโ€™s a huge mark down, like I said you had some references there but they were very generalised as opposed to unique or specific. A good song is still a good song ultimately but I would be lying if I said you aced the challenge itself.ย

Super busy with exams, so I wonโ€™t be able to submit this week sadly:katie:

A shameย :chick3:ย good luck with your exams though!! and hopefully we can see you back next round for the final challenge :heart2:

@fountainย do you happen to have a copy of my DH song "Berlin" anywhere? for some reason it's the only song from that season I'm missingย :'(

ย

Also, when people told me "the internet is forever" growing up they were LYING. I can't find a song from 5 years ago that only existed online, yet I have all my PH5 songs from 2014 because I wrote them on paperย

Omg Matt, you wrote a song about Lidl? :jonny5:

It only referenced it but it was a funny and relatable reference to me because it was about how in a small town there can sometimes be absolutely nothing to do except go to Lidl (or in my townโ€™s case, Asda :rip:ย although we did just have a Lidl open up like last week #progress)

I live in quite a smaller town now in The Netherlands, so I also feel going to Lidl is quite the event :jonnycat:ย anyway, Lidl is the best supermarket ever idc

I really, really loved it honestly, I felt very seen. I need to read it again to be certain, but I could go as far as to say it might be my favourite from the whole season so far.ย

Throwback to when I lost all my music scores and composition files I created at school because my music account was randomly deletedย :deadbanana4:

Sheโ€™s cute but one that just opened near me is kinda small, and idk if I can stan a small supermarket. For me itโ€™s more about the atmosphere and I love the large supermarkets that are just aisle after aisle and seem to never end. Especially if itโ€™s got a high roof. The more the supermarket is like an aircraft hangar the better tbh, thereโ€™s something so comforting about it:jonny2:

Oh, well, that is not the usual vibe you get here in The Netherlands from any supermarket, as most of them are quite small. But I know what you mean, we have plenty of those in Bucharest, and while I see their appeal, the prices and the 'special' weeks/items Lidl has >

Though Lidl in Romania > The Netherlands

Yeah that's HELL. I feel like a boomer but I want to print out all my lyrics in case Google Drive goes down someday. It seems impossible but look at Yahoo Answers, Myspace, etc. Even ATRL's been purged like 3 times since I joined

I like the small stores tbh. I live next to one grocery store that's just like 4 aisles and another that's a massive typical American supermarket and I almost always go to the smaller one unless I need more specialized ingredients bc it takes way too long to walk all the aisles to get everything I needย

Yeah itโ€™s a good idea tbh. Either that or make sure itโ€™s saved in multiple locations eg. I use my notes app, Pages and Google drive and just copy and paste everything to all of them.

I wonder if they all look the same even in those countries because I found it kinda eerie that the Lidl that opened near me looks the exact same as one further away, like the layout and everything was just a copy and paste so walking in it felt like you had somehow entered that same placeย :rip:

Thatโ€™s a good point, I kinda worry about that sometimes too because I have a lot of **** on there. I think you can download the files straight from Google Drive though which might be an easier way to keep everything.ย

I guess if it has everything you need then itโ€™s more convenient yeah. Also it might be smarter because one of them problems with the big supermarkets is that you have to walk past everything else and inevitably something that you donโ€™t actually need catches your eye and then you want it and end up spending more money :rip:

Oh yeah, in Romania at least (I haven't explored so many Lidls in the Netherlands) they have the same layout all the time. Though sometimes it's a 'mirrored' layout which is so confusing :deadbanana:

Lol this conversation makes me feel weird because I hate those big stores like Walmart. Theyโ€™re so ugly and they just feel like capitalism in the worst way. Itโ€™s like putting an entire mall in one building, except without the satisfying experience of being able to go from one store to the next or any sort of aesthetic design, plus they have less variety of product (ie: at a mall there may be seven different stores that all carry menโ€™s clothes, whereas Target will have likeโ€ฆ two brands, including their own generic label).

I absolutely refuse to go Walmart. The cheaper prices aren't worth the trauma. IDK how but Target seems so much more inviting. But Targets here are much more exciting - they have tiny Targets the size of a drug store, massive multi-story Targets with cart escalators, Targets in historic buildings, etc :gaycat3:

ย

Even smaller grocery stores only give you the illusion of shopping local half the time bc you'll talk to the owner and find out it's still just owned by some mega-corporation. This is why I try to go to the farmer's market but I also can't always justify spending $10 on a loaf of bread :jonny4:

Itโ€™s just something about the big open space of a large supermarket that feels invitingโ€ฆ they are so bright and large and it just hits all the right spots in my senses. :jonny5:

Plus the bigger the supermarket the more product choice, I only really go to the supermarket for food anyway and the ratio at my local one is like 5% random stuff, 15% household stuff, 80% food. No guns, either.ย

Thatโ€™s what the supermarket chains are like here too in general, in a more rural place youโ€™ll find the huge ones but then in the city theyโ€™ll have smaller โ€œexpressโ€ versions which are only a few aisles long. They really differ and are usually somewhat distinct in their layout since it depends on the space available (which is why I mentioned earlier that when I went into a Lidl and it was the exact same copy and paste as another store I found it very uncanny :rip:)

ahhhhh loving all the supermarket discourse

Thatโ€™s perfect. I would take having any supermarket next door as opposed to having my favourite a short walk away, proximity > brand tbh! Although when it comes to cravings thatโ€™s dangerous.ย

And wow, tell me more about this move to London!

true, i go to the store next door probably twice a day :jonny5:ย itโ€™s nice to not have to plan a weekโ€™s worth of groceries though

still id say having like 12 coffee shops on my street is more dangerous :jonny2:

I donโ€™t like coffee so this is a struggle I cannot relate to tbh :eddie:

I actually only drink water, itโ€™s the only drink I really enjoyย :dancehall3:
