Exactly! There's a pitbull in my dogs' group and he and my dog (who are both dominant) get along very well. And he always obeys to his owner. Not all people are fit for owning a pitbull.

Thanks for linking this, this is a pretty good subreddit. Goes to show that the behaviour is bred into them, not taught.

This should be a reason why people should be train for at least 6 months before they owning a dog because wtf is this

Typically when a pitbull attacks out of the blue. It isn’t really out of the blue. Pits have very subtle signals before they attack, that’s what makes them such good dog fighters. Most will get dog aggressive at some point in their life. Usually by early maturity. They were bred to hold huge 2,000lb bulls by the face, and in the last couple hundred years they were bred as fighting dogs. When a pitbull fights it isn’t like other dogs. They bite and hang on. They have what is called gameness. It makes them rather die than let go. That’s where the old wives tale about them having locking jaws came about. They don’t have locking jaws, they just won’t let go. It is also the reason why when they attack it usually involves massive trauma to the other dog, person, Child, cat, or farm animals. They are genetically predisposed to have dog aggression. Some owners may be lucky and their pit never attacks anyone. But most will at some point attack an animal, and in some cases people. There will be people that tell you it’s all in how they are raised. They seem not to get that people raise them from birth and their dog still attacks. The pitbull doesn’t need to be trained to fight, it is in their DNA. They fight to win. And winning to a pitbull is death. It’s not their fault that they were bred that way. But it is peoples fault that owns them and treat them like a Golden instead of a high drive working animal. If you own a pitbull or really almost any bully breed you should know how to make your dog release it’s bite to do the least amount of damage. Don’t pull the dog away. Either use a bite stick to open their mouth and let go of the victim. Or you can use a slip lead and let it tighten around the dogs neck until it lets go to take a breath. Do not let go of the pitbull, it will continue attacking even after people hit them, throw things at them, beats them. They have high pain tolerance and relentless drive to finish what they started. Keep yourself and others safe by teaching your dog to wear a muzzle when out on walks and exercising your dog appropriately to fulfill their needs. They aren’t nanny dogs, they aren’t herding dogs, they were bred to fight. So when you own one, it is your responsibility to keep others safe.

Nah it’s to protect my dog because there’s so much ignorant trash out there. I only started carrying it after a close call with a neighbor’s pit, and seeing a video of a pit absolutely destroying a poor golden retriever and the owner couldn’t get it off. 

I looked this up after I read this post and that video is absolutely heart breaking!!! I had to skip through majority of it because it was too hard to watch. But in the comments they said the golden retriever made it out ok 

 

OT: why would you let a pitbull rub around unleashed to begin with?? Some people have no business owning these dogs.

The dog shouldn't be off leash. 

The dog shouldn't be around animals it hasn't been socialised around. 

 

Humans race horses, whip them, use them for entertainment until their legs break or knees give in, then send them to slaughter for glue & meat.

The critical difference being, humans have moral agency and are aware of the suffering their actions inflict, dogs do not. Ban humans. 

People can't be trusted to train these dogs. Ban them. 

Every now and then ATRL sees this bizarre influx of threads trying to push something and it makes me wonder if certain users are being paid. After all, it turned out to be true with Ava Max
