Gwendolyn Posted May 8, 2022 Posted May 8, 2022 (edited) The BBC have announced Ncuti Gatwa will be the new Doctor Who taking over from Jodie Whittaker. The Rwandan-Scottish actor found fame playing Eric Effiong in Netflix's Sex Education. “There aren’t quite the words to describe how I’m feeling," the 29-year-old actor said in a statement. "A mix of deeply honoured, beyond excited and of course a little bit scared. "This role and show means so much to so many around the world, including myself, and each one of my incredibly talented predecessors has handled that unique responsibility and privilege with the utmost care. “I will endeavour my upmost to do the same. "Russell T Davies is almost as iconic as the Doctor himself and being able to work with him is a dream come true. His writing is dynamic, exciting, incredibly intelligent and fizzing with danger. “An actor’s metaphorical playground. The entire team have been so welcoming and truly give their hearts to the show. And so as much as it’s daunting, I’m aware I’m joining a really supportive family. Unlike the Doctor, I may only have one heart but I am giving it all to this show.” https://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/breaking-dr-who-ncuti-gatwa-26792805 Edited May 8, 2022 by Gwendolyn
Gwendolyn Posted May 8, 2022 Author Posted May 8, 2022 With this reveal, it makes him the first black man and the first LGBT actor to play the iconic role of the Doctor.
Beyondslay Posted May 8, 2022 Posted May 8, 2022 (edited) Yasssssssssssss! That's my man! I love him! Edited May 8, 2022 by Beyondslay
Augmented Posted May 8, 2022 Posted May 8, 2022 AAAAAHHHH Surprised they just dropped the announcement out of the blue tho, they usually create a bit of fanfare regarding the announcement but I guess it matches with the unexpected reveal of RTD returning as well!
Konril Posted May 8, 2022 Posted May 8, 2022 Sad Jodie has to go because she hasn't been given full potential in her Doctor.
BOOMBAYAH Posted May 8, 2022 Posted May 8, 2022 Interesting, he has great charisma on SE as well as fun acting choices. I could see him doing incredibly well with the right script, or be incredibly disappointing with the wrong script.
storminthedark Posted May 8, 2022 Posted May 8, 2022 Absolutely amazing casting The first LGBT and black actor to be playing the doctor with RTD at the helm too

Eóghan Posted May 8, 2022 Posted May 8, 2022 The Doctor Who audience is racist and misogynic. Just look how biased they were towards Jodie Whittaker from the start and it's been 3-4 seasons now and they still hate her. Although I admit the writing has dipped but even the good episodes are trashed everywhere. Ncuti Gatwa is a legend. He has a bright future ahead, so I wish him good luck. But I hope he has a thick skin because the toxic male audience are gonna throw plenty of homophobia and racism his way.
Gwendolyn Posted May 8, 2022 Author Posted May 8, 2022 I know the Daily Mail readers are gonna have a heart attack when they see the news

KasioKas Posted May 8, 2022 Posted May 8, 2022 oh WOW! I'd like to see him tackle it, the doc is quite expressive at times
Mephisto Posted May 8, 2022 Posted May 8, 2022 Wow I didn't expect this but I'm so hyped now, he seems like a great choice for the new Doctor! And with Russell T Davis returning as showrunner, I'm so excited for the new season!

Add to this the casual viewers and right wing weirdos in British media who always go on about the woke agenda. Like Doctor Who literally has the worst following
MingYouToo Posted May 8, 2022 Posted May 8, 2022 ahhh beautiful beautiful KING! loved him in sex ed! my ass is PERCHED for this season!
Eóghan Posted May 8, 2022 Posted May 8, 2022 Even Netflix is shook I hope this doesn't mean his role will be downgraded too much in the 4th season of Sex Education ... they haven't even started filming that season ... Now I'm 100% sure it's the last season, after Emma Mackey also leaving.
Crashed Posted May 8, 2022 Posted May 8, 2022 Oh wow But why tf is BBC messing up his announcement... Jodie got her announcement on television during a big tennis game and Peter was revealed during a TV special. There is like zero effort this time

There is like zero effort this time I think it’s just how social media marketing has evolved tbh. Sometimes a simple tweet/post can create all the buzz you need nowadays. A little teaser would have been nice tho
