I’d argue it’s the Rolling Stone cover :jonny5:

When she scored a 7 week #1 and the biggest female 1st week sales of all time with 600k+ debut of All For You - over 15+ years into her career :jonnycat:

TVR, around that time

or a lil after it (so it could set in people's brains)

Tbh maybe even AFY, but she was already known as a legend by then

so somewhere between those 2 eras it was for Sure that she was one :clap3:

Yup. Rhythm Nation/Janet. made her an icon. All For You made her a LEGEND.

Thinking Of You

She literally was deemed a legend by the end of the Rhythm Nation 1814 era. She received the MTV Vanguard Award in 1990 and in the same year, she had received eight awards in one night at the Billboard Music Awards :skull:

Probably Rhythm Nation

One of the first, if not the first? eras where a woman completely obliterated her peers and was receiving honorary icon awards :rip:

Pretty sure this is not true. Shania Twain's Come on Over Tour outgrossed by a lot.

Everyone please ignore @MadonnasBoyfriend He is a little drunk and does NOT represent ANY Madonna fans.

Came here to say exactly this.

That cover is part of her iconography but she wasn't even a decade into her music career by then. I would say The Velvet Rope Tour cemented her status as an icon. But AFY made her a legend. I honestly wish she would've performed at the Super Bowl in 2002 so ALL OF THAT MESS could've been avoided. She was more deserving that year than U2, who honestly could have waited until the next year. She deserves the stadium shows that other legends from her time got.

She held the record of 500k in the 90s. AFY was released in 2001 and Britney held the record with oops in 2000

ot: 2001

if I’m not mistaken her and Whitney cemented their legend status around the same time. Madonna did it in 2000 and Mariah in 2005
