Zoe_ Posted May 4, 2022 Posted May 4, 2022 Both Marilyn and Princess Diana based on media. Those two will continue to bring in millions, but their sad early deaths added to their legacies.

Nothing besides providing entertainment to people, she's an actress after all. But she's still iconic and stand out so much. Why? Cause some things just can't be taken away from a person. - Her & Princess Diana
Gorjesspazze9 Posted May 4, 2022 Posted May 4, 2022 Yeah, people in this thread must not know what pop culture is. Monroe is literally the most iconic women of the past century. Inspired Artist, Filmmakers, Musicians, Actresses, Singers, ect. Literally inspired Madonna’s most iconic Video. ? and Madonna is the biggest female popstar icon. That’s should tell you enough.
lostcause Posted May 4, 2022 Posted May 4, 2022 No. Not when Marie Antoinette, Queen Victoria, Audrey Hepburn, Anne Frank, Princess Diana, Queen Elizabeth II, Oprah, Frida Kahlo, Catherine the great, and Mother Theresa are all women of the modern era.

These people get mad when their pop culture gals are ignored but are the first to tear them down for no reason
Oktober Knight Posted May 4, 2022 Posted May 4, 2022 Yup. With Princess Diana and Madonna close behind.
popmusicisdead Posted May 4, 2022 Posted May 4, 2022 no one will ever touch Marilyn or Diana's level of iconic. maybe Madonna but she's doing a pretty good job of ruining that for herself
slowkills Posted May 4, 2022 Posted May 4, 2022 For movie stars her and Audrey Hepburn are at the top

You thought you did something and you did....you showed how you clearly didn't look into the woman's story and didn't educate yourself on her contributions to the early gay rights movement, the fight for female equality in Hollywood, and her legacy as a pillar of strength for sexual abuse survivors.

TROPICUM Posted May 4, 2022 Posted May 4, 2022 (edited) It's tricky, because the most iconic woman in modern history should be one who has had an impact not only in America, but the world. What's enchanting about Marilyn is that she was, according to the beauty standards at the time, the most beautiful woman in the world. She was the definition of American beauty and fashion. She helped a lot of people in Hollywood, defended gay rights, was all-in for women rights, etc. But aside this obviously impressive impact in American pop culture AND American civil rights movements, there's nothing more to her legacy. I'm not belittling her path and presence on American lexicon, she quite literally changed pop culture in America forever, and I might even say she was the person who created the way we see fashion and beauty today. I might reiterate, this should not be a competition about who's the most "iconic woman in modern history", because all women who have had some sort of impact in the world's history have their own respect and legacy. But if you really wanna put that title on someone, my best choice is Princess Diana. Diana was considered everything Marylin was; a rare, perfect beauty. But it's not what she looked like that made her rise on the eyes of people, it was her history and actions throughout her life. It's important to focus on the word "modern history", Diana brought up everyday problems to the light, real problems. And it's the fact that it was not concentrated on her own land, but her visibility was centered on the whole world. Poverty, famine and AIDS crisis were things she herself put the cameras lights on with her platform. She connected with people, she made the mainstream media look at what they were deliberately trying to ignore (cough AIDS Crisis, bad healthcare cough). Her actions not only helped England, but the world itself. Everyone could attest to some form of change Diana did. All of these things is what makes her the 'most iconic woman in modern history'. (I do agree that Marilyn is America's most iconic woman in their own modern history, though) Edited May 4, 2022 by TROPICUM
