Is Marilyn Monroe the most iconic woman in modern history?

Marilyn's iconography being honored at yesterday's Met Gala by Kim K showcased once again how enduring Marilyn Monroe and her legacy is to this day, and how often she still gets referenced and recognized, even decades after her passing.

There really aren't that many other, if any other at all, female figures, who have remained this relevant and influential in pop culture for such a long time.

So would you say that Marilyn Monroe is the most iconic woman of modern history?

Yes, the fact that she's been referenced in pop culture for decades proves she definitely is :clap3:

Has nothing to do with race, so now we should give the title to someone solely based on someone’s color not their impact?!, uhm,… okay :coffee2: plus nothing about her story  was basic.

What did she Exactly do for society, im sorry? Playing the dumb blond character?

She was super basic and a mediocre actor. She was famous mainly because of her beauty. But yeah her impact is undeniable.

What about her was basic? Per your comment? Huh? What does that her being white have anything to do with it? Regardless if according to you the only thing she did was played the “dumb role” she clearly did something right if she made an impact 60+ years later and is the staple of Hollywood Icon reference.

So you DON’T have a response for my question. Thank you

According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary an icon is "a person or thing widely admired especially for having great influence or significance in a particular sphere"

I certainly think Marilyn qualifies as one of the most important sexual icons in history and an icon of classic Hollywood. Her face is instantly recognizable with the help of Andy Warhol as well as her affair with JFK, early death, and Movies.

didnt you know that Marilyn Monroe is the very first few actress to build her own movie studio

that's more than being a dumb blonde

The fact she grew up poor in an abusive household, suffered through sexual abuse and had major underlying mental issues and STILL constantly took acting classes (she was a phenomenal actress and only had problems later in life because of medication), was fighting for black, women and lgbt rights unlike most of her peers, built her own studio, pushed for many movies ahead of their time to be made and was generally and genuinely a kind hearted woman and these FOOLS with ******* ferret avatars break their heels coming here just to say “oh she was a sex symbol I guess”

And by the way, thinking that women are dumb solely because they’re beautiful and girly is just being a close minded sexist that can’t comprehend a woman’s inteligente isn’t mutually exclusive with her beauty and feminine ideals but let’s not even go there

Yes. And her estate I think does an amazing job at upholding her legacy. I think even I knew from a young age that Marilyn Monroe was an old movie star because her image popped up in a lot of places and is always being referenced in pop culture. She was ultimately my gateway into old Hollywood films, but the unique thing for Marilyn is that she's still so recognizable even to newer generations who have never seen her movies or don't watch classic films. As I said above, this is probably the work of her estate. I mean, imagine being dead for over 50 years and still being able to market your name and image to various companies / products. Her legacy is definitely one for the History books.
