Demi changes pronouns to they/she

Recommended Posts

It’s funny to me how some people expect that because some of us are attracted to someone with a dick expect us to put up with everything people like Demi( in a performative sense) do.

Honestly I do understand people need to go through their gender experience in a different way, and that should be expressed

BUT

The pronoun thing is ridiculous. You can’t be that entitled and want to change pronouns you want every few months and expect everyone to follow up.

Being gay or bi or whatever under the umbrella doesn’t obligate you to support this behavior.

IMO Demi is performative, and if I’m wrong I hope Demi can sort it out and find an identity that is comfortable.

But stop banning people who don’t want to follow up that personal trip.

It feels like people outraged by this are missing the fact that the point of having such language is to help people realize where they are and help them work through the complex issue that is gender identity. It's also not lost on me how obnoxious people are to wanna mock a sexual abuse survivor for trying to figure out their gender when such often impacts how one perceives themselves and how to work through that.

It's like getting mad at someone for being unsure if they're gay or bi despite such being a common thing many people with same sex attraction work through, particularly queer women having to work through what is their geniine feelings and what is compulsory heterosexuality. Would you get mad at someone who once identifies as bi deciding she was in fact a lesbian?

You're angry bexause you fail to understand sexuality and gender in the first place, which says more about the person angry especially if they're also queer.

It would save a lot of time and energy if instead of saying y’all don’t understand pronouns you just say you don’t like people using pronouns outside of he/him or she/her. Most of y’all are grown adults who are capable of comprehending it. It would be more intellectually honest to say you just don’t agree with it.

You can dislike Demi or think they’re attention seeking all you want, but some of y’all just have a disdain for anyone that has a different conception of gender than you and it’s a little embarrassing that someone else’s identity gets you this hot and bothered.

echoing both of these

no? demi identifying with they/she pronouns now doesn't mean a lot of you weren't misgendering them when they only used they/them pronouns

I am so shocked. Like.. I’m so shocked. So shocked that I did not see this coming. I am shocked.

Well  this thread proves that she was not only “ they” this whole time but also “ she” so i agree with that user

At least half of ATRL won't receive WPs anymore :dies: they are so kind :clap3:

I imagine a bunch of people are having their WPs removed now. :clap3:

Hope none of them were banned.

Does this mean Demi is eligible for those 'most streamed female albums threads' again? @ariananext

no it doesn't? they've changed their pronouns so they're they/she now. they used exclusively they/them pronouns publicly for a year and privately for longer than that. don't be thick

Which was stupid from day one. For several reasons. One, not everyone, including those  who follow pop culture, is going to be cognizant of everyone’s preferred pronouns and two, with some people (Demi clearly being a prime example) that some people use pronouns just to be ~different~. She’s weird as ****. In one interview, she didn’t even know what her own pronouns were. :rip:

And if she switches back next month, then what ? People are not going to keep a tracker on one’s pronouns.

I feel like it’s possible she did it because she was already so known as a she that she kept seeing herself mislabeled online. Probably easier to just accept it than try and police everyone to say they them

I thought the whole point of the they/them pronouns was that the person that uses them doesn't identify as neither a man or a woman, how can you be a they/them and a she/her at the same time?

Apparently for some people gender is so fluid you can wake up one day and feel like a man, wake up another day and feel like a woman, and wake up another day and feel like nonbinary. I don't get it...

I don't particularly like Demi, but the hate they receive is uncalled for and a lot of people are being incredibly ignorant of what being non binary means and how it can evolve.

It's so easy to mind your business and respect other people's decisions regarding their bodies, their pronouns, their sexuality, etc. To assume that they came out as non binary for attention is so vile.

You don't have to get it because it doesn't affect you. Why can't you just accept their decisions and live your own life? How does it affect you what Demi's pronouns are?

It's just trend-hopping and narcissism, having the power to force everyone around you to address you differently lest they be called a bigot must give you a pretty nice dopamine rush.

To me, it's perfectly fine if you want to be a more masculine girl or more feminine guy, but there's no need to invent a bazillion new identities to describe them. :katie:

Hmm... you don't think it was a bit suspicious that Demi came out as non-binary shortly after the that disastrous frozen yoghurt incident from last year? :toofunny3:  Come on now.

This. And she wasn't very consistent with the whole non-binary thing to begin with. In fact just last week she referred to herself as "daddy's girl". :skull:

And if that wasn't the reason? I don't know them. Why would I judge them? It's so easy to mind my own business.

Proud of them, I’m non-binary and my pronouns are he/they, so I mean the way I see it is that sometimes I like being called he/him, sometimes I like being called they/them, nothing wrong with Demi updating their pronouns at all.

For all of you making fun of Demi, grow the f*ck up, seriously, I’m sick of the transphobia, pronoun bashing and all out war against some trans and NB people on this site :biblio:

Why do you think we have anti-groomer bills now? The people who are yelling "mind your own business!" are doing anything but that.

Some of y'all are being weird about this at your big ages when there is really nothing wrong with this. I know people that change pronouns based on their comfort and what makes them happy, y'all being mean towards Demi about this is truly weird. I am in my early 20s, and I know people who go by they/she or they/he pronouns and it's what they feel comfy towards.

You can interchange between those sets of pronouns. From my understanding, the person prefers they/them pronouns, but also uses she/her pronouns.

For example, Joanna is going to their weekly grocery errands, she wants a loaf of bread but it is out of stock.

The fact that this thread has made some users think this can be an excuse to be gross about non binary people... yikes :rip: stay stinky, atrl!!!

It's unfortunate since this site is mostly cis gay men, and some of them have this Regina George complex that makes them better than everybody else which is weird.
