Idk, I’m pretty sure Demi’s team had something to do with this. They’re about to release a new album soon; so their team is probably trying to prevent some things to happen. I mean, Demi obviously prefers they/them, so I’m sticking with that

Why are we bringing Sam Smith into this i--

the blatant lack of respect for gender non-conforming people  so boring and late

this doesn't make any sense

I am VERY confused by all these pronouns and now people can just keep changing them every week.

I mean I’m a stan and I’m not necessarily surprised. There are spectrums to gender much like sexuality. When things become en vouge, sometimes there will be people who identify as something not because they feel some super strong core need to, but more so because it’s a label that they think fits them or seems attractive in the moment. Some non-binary people are super attached to the label and have a core aversion to the gender binary. Some people just casually identify that way because they don’t feel super attached to their assigned sex. The same thing happened with bisexuality where a lot of people/women thought the term fit them because they casually find women attractive, or they were in a period of experimentation , or they just don’t feel that strongly about boys. But other people have a strong relationship to their bisexuality.

The important thing is that regardless, we try to be respectful. I know y’all will drag on Demi and claim they do things like this for attention. Just don’t let this color how you view other people who may not identify with their assigned sex.

And then you get warned if you don’t keep up :ahh:

This is really really ridiculous.

I've always tried to be respectful but I DO NOT GET IT.

What makes Demi nonbinary? She's very feminine presenting, her body is very feminine, the way she dresses is feminine, her voice is EXTREMELY feminine, her use of makeup is extremely feminine, etc. The fact her hair is short? Is that it? I don't understand why she says she's nonbinary while literally being the definition of femininity.

I’m sorry but this pronouns thing is not going to work.

Imagine trying to keep up to what each pronouns each person wants, then they also change.

This forum should also stop banning people who don’t follow up, is really ridiculous.

she became the most famous non-binary person in the world and also gave them visibility.

idk why you're complaining :rip:

Good god, this the frustrating part .

People get confused with this and if they slip up, they get called bigots.

I will always call her she and that’s it!

well considering her preferred pronouns are they/she that is totally acceptable

the fact that they're now also using she/her pronouns doesn't mean they aren't non binary anymore :skull: it's sad how clearly some users here don't understand what being non binary means and how they have no intention to understand either.

It feels like people outraged by this are missing the fact that the point of having such language is to help people realize where they are and help them work through the complex issue that is gender identity. It's also not lost on me how obnoxious people are to wanna mock a sexual abuse survivor for trying to figure out their gender when such often impacts how one perceives themselves and how to work through that.

It's like getting mad at someone for being unsure if they're gay or bi despite such being a common thing many people with same sex attraction work through, particularly queer women having to work through what is their geniine feelings and what is compulsory heterosexuality. Would you get mad at someone who once identifies as bi deciding she was in fact a lesbian?

You're angry bexause you fail to understand sexuality and gender in the first place, which says more about the person angry especially if they're also queer.

Because that's how they feel. All you have to do is respect it.

This is why the pronouns shtick is a joke

Even though Demi is really annoying, I do feel bad for her sometimes. I think she still has so many wounds unclosed from her Disney days and she's still trying to reconcile all of that. From what it sounded like when she announced her non-binary identity, it seemed like she equated womanhood with feeling sexualized by men and not having control of herself, and that is was liberating to her, which is honestly sad. Not that being non-binary is bad and obviously I don't know how she truly feels about her gender identity, but just that she found that escaping womanhood made her feel less likely to be affected by misogyny. I mean, she was raped by another young star and given drugs while being exploited by an oligarchical corporation, and is obviously still dealing with the fallout. She's talked about wanting to settle down in a farm in Texas and she honestly should, I think it would be best for her.

The issue is that there’s a number of people on this website who go out of their way to express their disdain for trans or non-binary people, and will knowingly misgender people or rant about pronouns like old men cause they can’t conceive not being asses on an Internet forum.

Some of you don't seem to realize that this doesn't mean that they've stopped identifying as non-binary :biblio: pronouns do not equal gender and non-binary people can use literally whatever pronouns they want to.

It's just a social issue... Just a trend that everyone is hopping on just for the sake of it. Watch Harry Styles soon say he is "they/them"

What do you mean by "some things", like awkward interview questions? "They" is still one of their pronouns, I don't know why adding "she" back in wouldn't stop an interviewer from asking about it.

It would save a lot of time and energy if instead of saying y’all don’t understand pronouns you just say you don’t like people using pronouns outside of he/him or she/her. Most of y’all are grown adults who are capable of comprehending it. It would be more intellectually honest to say you just don’t agree with it.

You can dislike Demi or think they’re attention seeking all you want, but some of y’all just have a disdain for anyone that has a different conception of gender than you and it’s a little embarrassing that someone else’s identity gets you this hot and bothered.
