This film breaking even could be possible. Ticket to Paradise had 2 stars with huge salaries and grossed $172M against a $60m budget

Β

Barbie feels a bigger release than this too so maybe it could push to 230-275M. Although I will say that Julia and George have more of a box office draw than Margot and Ryan

hmmm but will WB be happy with that result? It has at least a $100m budget (including Margot being the highest paid actress in Hollywood with this movie) before marketing costs and being positioned as a major summer tentpole for the studio / counterprogramming against old stablemate Christopher Nolan. The marketing is also far more scattershot than the straightforward romcom premise of Ticket to Paradise and Roberts and Clooney are far bigger stars than Robbie and Gosling and the million other non-draw cameos.

Β

Like how is that official poster selling this version of Barbie as a raunchy studio comedy (as described by test audiences) when it's serving family film based on a children's brand? Look at the recent official poster for Barbie and the poster for Super Mario Bros and tell me they aren't aiming for the same broad family audience -- when it's supposed to be serving something like one those SNL satire skits turned feature film (it even features Ferrell and McKinnon). It needs to start selling the jokes; where are the jokes?!

Β

In other worse to worser news an audience interest survey has this ranked below Asteroid City. A lack of a full trailer is hurting tbh because the "Barbie...but live-action!" concept alone is not going to be enough. I hope this breaks out as it would be a great result for adult movies still being a butts in seats draw; but I just do not see it and people are really running with this being a smash in the makingΒ :rip:

Yeah the trailer left much to be desired plotwise. I hope they’re not too secretive with their marketing. I’m excited though!

This trailer is not it, it's boring as hell, even the supposed funny bit didn't make me laugh. I understand spoiler, but it didn't even show one second of Barbie into the real world, like what? This isn't the teaser anymore, your first trailer could make or break the film. Where is the supposed social criticism? Where is the plot? Besides production design, so far nothing impressed me.
