Movie was good.

It started off legendary and then we got to Mattel and the mother/daughter and it weakened it.

A few holes here and there but it’s not that deep.

Too heavy handed on the message of the film but overall I really enjoyed it.

omg the movie was so good and fun :jonny5:

i know people had their doubts about the casting at first (especially regarding ryan) but both him and margot was great, especially margot :clap3:

My two issues with the movie and why I rate it 8.5/10 are similar.

1. Too much was too cringey/on the nose. I feel like the daughter's character wasn't realistic at all. Like WHAT was she such a ***** for? They didn't give any insight as to why her character was the way she was. She just antagonized everyone and her mom the entire movie despite the fact that she had both parents in her life, they weren't living in a shoe box, and otherwise they didn't have any otherworldly struggles.

The barbie rant calling her a fascist and making fun of her but then later in the film being like "men hate women and women hate women" like girl you ARE the woman that hates women :deadbanana2: Her character felt like a complete contradiction just there to make parts of the plot make sense. She also believed Barbie was a psychotic adult who "believed" they were Barbie and was convinced after like 2 minutes that Barbie was the real Barbie :deadbanana4:

The daughter's storyline bothered me so much with how nonsense it was compared to other characters having thought out storylines.

2. Too many plot holes and random plots. The Ken fight made absolutely no sense. The whole song rendition and plan. They were all singing on the beach but then all the barbies went to different Kens but somehow, some of the Kens didn't have any Barbies after? Even Simu's Ken was serenading a Barbie but then started singing to Stereotypical Barbie but still got jealous when his Barbie got up and went somewhere else. But somehow he was on the "other" side of Kens despite the same thing happening to him? It didn't make sense.

Then the whole fight of opposing Kens that just break out into an eventual dance while fighting then come out holding hands with no actual conflict resolution. Like what :skull:

Then Barbie at Mattel. The way she was happy to see them and get in a box and last minute changed her mind and fled for her life with no actual explanation :deadbanana4:

I get it's a fantasy comedy but I feel like they started caring more about the feminism message than having a cohesive plot. Overall still loved it enough to see it twice already but the same issues bothered me both times :lmao:

agree with this 100% :deadbanana2:

literally cringed at most of her lines

I would give this a 5/10 based on my own scale (as everyone should, i don’t understand how some of you point out the glaring flaws of the film then give it a 8 and higher lmao but that’s just my own little rant).

LOVED the aesthetics and craftsmanship of the film and the influences. Also enjoyed the message behind the film but the execution missed the mark majorly for me. Margot and Ryan’s acting were great and some of the jokes were genuinely funny to me, but that’s about where the good ends and the bad begins…

A lot of you already pointed out the flaws that I would like to echo here: the writing, the side character arcs, and the message itself also felt not fleshed out enough for me.

You can thoroughly enjoy something (give it a high rating) without necessarily thinking it was perfect.

my own rating is based on my enjoyment and not my critical reception.

Watched it this weekend, although it wasn't as good as I was hoping I still enjoyed it. I'd give it solid 7. It deserves all its success since it just seemed so FRESH to go to the movies and not see some super hero cgi mess

I feel like Margot is really hard to cast in "normal" roles, because her beauty is just unreal. JLaw is pretty, but she looks like someone you would see on the street.  Margot looked like Barbie her whole career  :rip:(well, maybe not in Tonya)

well, queen elizabeth is the furthest from "normal look" lol What you see on that picture are prosthetics and heavy makeup.   What I meant were everyday-person type of roles.

I feel like people in recent times have done WAY too much when it comes to the state of her career

it's up to her to wisely choose her future roles so that she can impose herself as a A-List actress for years to come

the industry is falling apart and some people thinks there are A-List actress when in reality NO ONE is having success without marvel, reboots or franchises.

Margot's career fails in comparison to who? Who is having a long run of successful original movies? I can't think of any actress.

I need Warner to take a stand against homophobia and religious foolery.

I mean, I'm surprised they are even "allowing" this movie and it's feminist message to begin with so this is more likely what they are trying to use as scapegoat. I doubt WB will really care, I mean I don't think a lot of money will be left out of their pockets, it's not like we're talking about big big movie markets like Japan for example.

It's giving Cynthia from Rugrats

Ot, just saw this movie a second time. Me and my friends found more 'easter eggs' and messages that we haven't seen during the first time. Love this movie, even if it's a capitalist trojan horse disguised as a feminist masterpiece.

Finally got around to watching it tonight and I enjoyed it so much! It surpassed all my expectations.

I understand some of the critiques some people have. But I really think the movie found the perfect balance of being entertaining, inspiring, and provocative. If it was longer or a little too preachy it would have turned off lots of people. As it is, many more will see it and its feminist message will reach more people.
