I think the target demo are teenagers, the TikTok crowd, Mean Girls stans, etc.

Moviegoers aren't just children and boomers :rip:

That being said, it's really hard to predict how this will do but that's cause we only have one teaser

We need a couple more trailers and some clips

Mean Girls was a $17m budget teen comedy film. My bewilderment isn’t that the film exists on paper, but that someone agreed to a $100m budget, including those massive pay checks for Margot and Ryan, and a marketing budget to match.

Tell the marketing team that and quickly.

Being at the festival of Cannes like warner has made for blockbusters from tarantino, luhrmann or Scorsese. This speaks "marketing onky as children movie " to you?.

What have they released that suggest kiddie movie to you? Certainly wasn't the teaser

The only thing the teaser trailer did was show….that this is a live action Barbie starring a hot Hollywood starlet that relied heavily on A Space Odyssey gag to sell itself as a comedy.

How are adult audiences sitting down to Avatar not openly either thinking it’s a family movie because it’s Barbie, or not openly scoffing in general? Like I said this new trailer needs to do a lot of heavy lifting to sell whatever the story / comedy is. Who knows maybe it can pull a Mama Mia against The Dark Knight, we’ll see (I doubt it).

Yes plenty of summer blockbusters and family films have premiered at Cannes out of competition, the 90s Hollywood attempt at Godzilla even famously closed the ceremony to mass negative buzz.

A Cannes red carpet is a great tried and true method to to build word of mouth and press attention β€” I still don’t think the teaser trailer, posters or anything really so far has gone a good job at selling this movie as an adult studio comedy.

Can you even name the last hit studio comedy?

This film breaking even could be possible. Ticket to Paradise had 2 stars with huge salaries and grossed $172M against a $60m budget

Barbie feels a bigger release than this too so maybe it could push to 230-275M. Although I will say that Julia and George have more of a box office draw than Margot and Ryan
