AxelFox Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 Just watched this at the cinema, I loved it so much!!!!  Margot Robbie the WOMAN that you are. I am literally obsessed. She was brilliant on all fronts, the acting, the looks, the body the stance... I don't remember last time I was this gagged over somebody that is not Beyoncé herself. She's got a new fan. 3 1
Dom Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 Probably in minority here. But I was so bored, badely sat through. Good on marketing people for making this seem good. Â acting was also iffy from some actors. Â id give it a 5/10 1 2
halcyonday Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 My co-workers are talking about it non-stop and some still have to go and they really want to. Margot will have legs, I fear. Â 1
blackoutbritney Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 Do we think we could get:  Best Actress: Margot Best Actor: Ryan Best Supporting Actress: America  for the oscar’s?

America did great but I don't think it's happening. It will be already hard for Margot and Ryan for such a movie, but fingers crossed. Â
halcyonday Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 Barbie scored the biggest opening weekend this year in my country (Poland). We're stanning  1
LastKiss Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 I think Margot and Ryan should get acting noms given the marketing and cultural impact the movie is having + their great performances  America needs to push trough and get that BSA nom, miss Ugly Betty needs HA moment 2
Bloodflowers. Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 Just came home from seeing Barbie for the first time. I was bopping my ass off to Charli XCX song during her scenes 3
Arcadius Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 I’d honestly be shocked if this film received any acting nods since award shows are not favorable to box office smash films. But hopefully it can be an Angela Bassett WF situation where Hollywood feels they have to nominate someone.Â
Paloma Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 the movie is predicted to gross 1,2b.  margot WON.  HATERS in ruins  3
ATRL Moderator feelslikeadream Posted July 26, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted July 26, 2023 Well, unfortunately I was pretty disappointed  I think there were some definite highlights (America, some of the supporting characters, the Billie scene, the last line), but I thought that more than half of the jokes just didn't work. A lot of the writing was awkward imo, and I think the audience agreed cause no one in the theater was laughing either. A bigger issue for me was pacing, as a ton of the transitions just felt super clunky. (Ex: The two characters walking at the end; how are they suddenly surrounded by white?!)  I also thought the messaging was pretty muddled. I thought it would be a huge challenge to wrangle a coherent feminist message in a Barbie film, but I had hope Greta could do it. But ultimately, I don't think it offered an interesting and coherent stance on anything really, as it presents America's (very basic) speech as some kind of revelation. But then it shifts to Ken's identity crisis  It just was not doing what I hoped it would.  It was def fun to look at, though! 1
Lady Claire Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 Okay, just saw the movie today and i LOVED it! I thought it would be a lil more silly but actually it has pretty funny jokes and seems like it was made for people that grown with Barbie and not for children... the movie is not for kids at all  I liked America's speech but honestly i think it was kinda... redundant? Like, we can understand the message of the movie and then she comes and literally details what is the message of it. But yeah i think there's a lot of dumb men people out there so they had to make it clear clear.  There's some clever jokes even on the small details and i was laughing my ass off  The soundtrack is nice but the only songs that were properly used in the context of the movie were Pink (this one was SO funny), DTN, Speed Drive, I'm Just Ken, WWIMF and Barbie World (for the credits). The rest is just a TTH playlist for marketing purposes. Barbie def needed her own musical moment but i guess Margot just can't sing and that's fine though.  Really want to see this again soon!  Â
Relampago. Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 If Laura Dern can win an Oscar for her 1 speech in Marriage Story, I don’t see why America shouldn’t be able to at least snag a nom.  Also, contrary to a lot of comments in here, I thought the movie was actually quite interesting messaging wise. Usually feminist films are pretty dismissive of the men’s side and how they contribute to feminism as well. But one of the central points of the movie is how Barbies are dismissive of Kens and taken for granted, so Kens turn to things like patriarchy to take power, rather than finding themselves and creating their own narrative instead of being cast aside for not being “a man” (Barbieland) or fitting into the predetermined idea of a “man” (Kenland).  It kept the female perspective of feminism pretty simple (yet effective imo) because the more depth on the Ken side of things woild have made the movie far too muddled and complicated while trying to attack too many topics. Idk, I thought that perfect balance of the two made the movie fun and enjoyable for everyone, basically a living example that Barbie is for everyone and everyone can enjoy Barbie, the movie, the toy and the message. 6

Assuming the Oscar would happen *after* the strikes, I think Margot has the big chance for Best Actress and Greta for Best Director. But the rest? Ryan can kiss both Best Actor/Best Supporting Actor goodbye since Oppenheimer's Cillian and RDJ would be tough competition. Emily Blunt was amazing as supporting Actress as well. So high chance that Oppenheimer would sweep everything.
Triton Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 She really looked incredible with that pink cowgirl outfit. Ugh, the legs, the curves….  Will Ferrell annoying as always with his obnoxious “comedy” but meh.  I didn’t expect that turn from Ken, the self drags from Mattel were hilarious and the soundtrack songs really worked with the scenes. Hearing the soundtrack first I was a bit worried but it works I’m the film. I love that the little synths from Dance the Night are like the “theme” throughout the film.  2
