Barbie | Margot Robbie & Ryan Gosling | MC 80 - RT 88 | BARBILLION 💖

Watched it last night. It was nothing like I was expecting but I absolutely loved it. It was smart and clever and beautiful to look at and deeply meta and thought-inducing but most of all FUN. And the theater was PACKED and everyone dressed in pink and laughing their assess off. Barbie brought back fun to the movies.

Margot Robbie is stunning and the perfect actress for Barbie but man Ryan Gosling is the star with one of the campest most ridiculous characters I've seen.

But I couldn't help to think how ironic the gigantic marketing push for this movie kinda goes against the commentary it does on women's place in a capitalist patriarchy. Because I saw lots of little girls watching the movie and this is absolutely not a movie for kids.

Sadly, I didn't like Barbie THAT much. I just hate when movies are extra preachy and too obvious with its messages. The whole experience was kinda exhausting.

I loved Margot, Ryan, Isa, the first 20 minutes, and the production value, of course.

A 6/10 for me.

Other than that, I still want this movie to make 598593688960930636 dollars. Rooting hard for it. :wave2:

Yeah, the first 20 minutes were excellent, but the middle was just not it.

A Cinemascore is proof it wasn't as radically feminist as some people suggested tbh :fan:

A lot of feminists on my TL are saying it was actually watered down/surface level feminism :deadbanana4: the way conservatives lose their minds over this 2013 Beyoncé self-titled-esque “men and women are equal” feminism is funny (but scary) because it just shows they wouldn’t even be able to comprehend incredibly nuanced and complex explorations of feminism

This might not be completely dead yet in China. Apparently it’s trending #1 on Weibo and word of mouth there is amazing. It keeps getting more and more showings each day too because of the hype.

It’s very suburban mom feminist if that makes sense?

However the word patriarchy gets mentioned so much that conservatives (who I’m sure don’t even ‘believe’ in that) would cringe watching it

This movie was sensational. 10\10. Never have I been in a movie theatre and felt like I was the target audience quite so much. It was just so good and so intelligently written. So political but in a really layered and nuanced way.

I definitely feel that some of the more niche humour was lost on the normie Australian audience in my theatre, me and my gay bestie were definitely the only people cackling at some of the jokes. I could also feel some of the men in the theatre who'd come with their girlfriends were not liking it. Hopefully this inaccessibility doesn't hurt its legs because I want to see this reach 1 billion.

This definitely did not live up to the hype

How could they make this BORING when they had so much to work with

Don't see why Ryan's performance is so acclaimed, I thought his acting was actually cringeworthy. It was awful (and so was his singing)

Margot and America did their best with a bad script.

Amazing movie with a good message. The theater was packed. Give Ryan & Margot both oscars rn. 9.5/10

this was amazing. it was political bc Barbie's always been like that. You got to be a dumbass to assume they are gonna make a Barbie movie with just pretty clothes and make up when animated versions of that already exists. And it was not even that preachy, it was not also forced.

loved it, everyone slayed :clap3: movie of the year

Saw it last night and have mixed feelings. Gosling delivered a great performance and there were some funny scenes, but overall the movie felt a bit too on the nose. Like I was being bashed on the head with the message over and over.

This was my favorite scene.

Spoiler

That box scene had so much potential for a tearjerk but alas…

I feel like Scott Evans is the one who got their roles imo.

I knew this would be packed but Caught an early showing with my cousin who was in his all pink regalia :deadbanana2:

but it was cute film. I love the twist it took because I genuinely had no idea where it was going to go

America stole the show :gaycat: ppl are doing too much on Ryan but he was good too I guess :biblionny: his singing voice was serving Lana snl performance with all of the different pitches and tones

the ost made some points in the film :clap3:

the ending took me out I did not see that coming . my theater went crazy for Dula Peep :skull: it reminded me of endgame especially with the line and “tailgating stuff”
