Another enjoyable film from Greta Gerwig. Feels like the weakest sheā€™s ever written but also the most ambitious. 7/10 territory.Ā

Entire cineworld in Nottingham was absolutely packed, it was showing in 5 different screens at once, everyone in pink HOWEVER the cinema was the pits, no Barbie merch, no stand or cut out or anything! Fumes

I stan this movie so hard :jonny5:Ā Everything about it was so good.Ā  Margot carried the movie so well,Ā  Ryan Gosling was great always staying in character as Ken,the Just Ken number was even better than expected, America Ferrera's monologues were great,Ā  Issa Rae as the president,, the Screenplay was brilliant, along with costume & production design,Ā  and the ending was perfect, Greta nailed the landing and the direction & writing! This genuinely deserves several Oscar nominations :clap3:Ā

How can this go from a 30m chick flick then increase to 60m 70m hit and then now 150m. How is that even possible? Truly historic.

This script had some major problems. The intro crediting Barbie/Mattel with allowing women to follow their dreams and become more than mothersā€¦ umm as important as a toy can be it didnā€™t spearhead the feminist movement, and those lines comparing Barbies to indigenous people and Kens to smallpox were really off-putting. Hollywood really doesnā€™t care about being woke when it comes to Native peoples.Ā

Margot was great though, and I loved her chemistry with America, but I felt there was a lot left unexplored in favor of fully populating Barbieland and focusing on a ton of deep cut Mattel trivia and gags that sometimes didnā€™t land. I think the movie shouldā€™ve really explored the America Ferrera character fully and gave us some more context as to why Barbie was important to her, similar to how the Lindsay Lohan and Tyra Banks connection was focused on in Life-Size.Ā

Iā€™m going to see this at a nearby cinema on Tuesday night with VIP reclining seating and I canā€™t wait! Myself, my two sisters and my younger sisterā€™s boyfriend are all going to see it and we canā€™t wait! My younger sister boyfriend is a big wresting fan and heā€™s only going to see cause he loves John Cena :dies:
