oh the marketing on this movie is the best I've seen for a movie in YEARS. So many moments in that trailer give virality as well, notably the heel and Birkenstock scene! Also they're so genius for the Nicki inclusion with the aqua sample, absolutely perfect

Even the outfits in the second half are perfect and iconic  For some reason Cowgirl Barbie dressed in all hot pink set in such a mundane and dull environment (real life) looks so striking and is interesting both visually and conceptually

The trailer was such a serve! I was hyped before and I’m even more hyped now that we’ve seen kind of the real world part of the movie. I’m kinda shocked at how self-aware this movie is, even with the “We haven’t played with Barbie since we were 5 years old” and the Mattel logo in the office. And I never would have thought Barbie Girl would be used in the movie with the Mattel and Aqua drama, and in a Nicki track too.

 

This is shaping up to be a modern classic. I can feel it

A year ago, I was dragging naysayers and swearing up and down Miss Gerwig would deliver an ambitious, intelligent, subversive masterpiece (and still I'm sure there will be plenty of thoughtful social commentary in it).

 

Now... this is where we're at:

 

Hari Nef screams "FLAT FEET!!!!", makes a barf sound and the rest of them screams in horror... This is from an original screenplay by Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach? I'm supposed to laugh?

 

 

I'll still be seeing this no matter what and hoping for the best (it's not like I can't appreciate some campy, unserious fun either), but every single joke that's been in the teaser and trailer so far has been nothing but basic and irritating. Romy and Michele's High School Reunion has done that type of humor soooooo much better, let me go rewatch that.

Yup, I think after the pandemic people just want pure fun and colorful movies, that's why Mario is smashing hard

And like Mario, Barbie is a huge, nostalgic and ubiquitous brand that everyone grew up seeing everywhere in pop culture and people want to "ironically" stan and watch it (like that Minions gentlemen meme) and the online memes and engagement are already huge
