TaylorNation Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 those generic and faceless Selena Gomez albums getting any sort of positive reviews

Honestly if feels like the redneck reviewers really fear the gay stans of these girls.

Jotham Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 (edited) 1989 EDIT: Oh mess I thought this referred to albums that helped create poptimism, not necessarily albums that don't deserve their high scores. 1989 100% deserves its high score. Edited April 28, 2022 by Jotham
Arrows Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 Ariana, Selena, Camila, Justin and Dua being acclaimed. Love some of their music to varying degrees, but let's be honest, the vast majority of it is very empty.

Dystopian Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 future nostalgia and sour. they would have teenage dreams score if they were released in 2010.
gustavothehuman Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 (edited) Rare getting a +70 on Metacritic. Anything by Camila getting a +70 on Metacritic. Future Nostalgia getting a +80 on Metacritic. Sour getting a +80 on Metacritic. The truth is that critical acclaim = fan base most likely to send you death threats nowadays. Hence why Ed Sheeran, Imagine Dragons and other GP-oriented artists get bullied left and right. As a Swiftie it would be hypocrite of me to say Taylor didn't benefited from that, but I think her only overrated album was Lover. Folklore, Evermore and Red all deserved their +80 scores, I would add 1989 in that group too. Edited April 26, 2022 by gustavothehuman
terrorblade Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 literally any pop girl album released post... 2017? 18? like Loser & Traumatica both getting a 79
smartalek22 Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 I still don't know what Poptism is can someone explain

Whether it's absolutely terrible/generic af or not, you can get awesome scores because some people are trying to rectify the sh*t that pop music has taken for decades. It's your job to decipher which scores were given honestly and which ones are given MASSIVE boosts to rectify the actual faults of the past so much that it becomes an insult/joke to the readers.

After Emotion, suddenly pop music became a critics favourite. The poppier, the better.
Rei Posted April 27, 2022 Posted April 27, 2022 Future Nostalgia and Thank U Next. Had they been released in 2011 they would’ve received a 40. K bye for now, Sunshine. <3
loliza Posted April 27, 2022 Posted April 27, 2022 kinda all the reviews for selena's albums. Don't get me wrong she has some amazing songs, but a good album as a whole well that's another thing
