Genuinely feels like everyday I see a new viral tweet or video essay dragging the film (that isn't even released yet) or nitpicking every single piece of promo that's released to high heaven I won't even go into the genuine weird reactions to Cynthia and Ariana promoting the film during press interviews because Broadway fans are truly a different breed. 1
Funhouse Posted November 15 Posted November 15 I don't care if she's a little bit messy in her personal life, if you can do all of this while still sounding Like That I would let you get away with murder 3
Jude Posted Saturday at 11:10 AM Posted Saturday at 11:10 AM In case you haven't seen it, someone on reddit posted the full (kinda) version of What Is This Feeling https://www.reddit.com/r/wicked/s/3uPO62XxvE 1

Some people on social media are just truly miserable and want to complain for the sake of complaining. Very much looking forward to the switch-up when this smashes at the BO. 3

I think a high stakes, hugely marketed, long awaited adaptation of the biggest musical that's still running and is widely beloved beyond just theater geeks was always going to be torn to shreds over any perceptible flaws tbh. Especially when most remakes / adaptations suffer the same fate. But I also think it doesn't help that a lot of people have a bone to pick with Ariana and Cynthia personally. And then of course there were the people who were always going to hate it because "woke" due to it being women led and featuring a diverse cast. 1

Give all of the awards for costume design/set design!!! costume has a high tendency to period pieces poor things, cruella, ma Rainey, little women, phantom thread, fantastic beasts (fantasy but also a specific period), grand Budapest, gatsby, Anna karenina, the artist, young Victoria, duchess, Elizabeth the golden age, Marie Antoinette, geisha, aviator, Chicago, moulin rouge, gladiator vs black panther 1/2, mad max fury road, alice, rotk. Alice is probably the best comparison, thought that was helped by being legend Colleen Atwood.
MatiRod Posted Monday at 02:49 PM Posted Monday at 02:49 PM You can bet the Grammys will regret not nominating Ariana for the big awards. She is going to be one of the stars of the holiday season/winter/awards season with how big this movie is going to be, and apparently she's amazing in her role. 4
laqqinq Posted Monday at 05:36 PM Posted Monday at 05:36 PM Did they change the composition of the song Popular? Or was it always that way? In a more show tune vibe i guess? (Not saying it's a bad things, its a musical, after all) As someone who hasn't watched/seen/listened to music from the Wicked musical, I was just wondering if Ariana's version in Yours Truly was like the pop version or the original lol.

Funhouse Posted Monday at 07:16 PM Posted Monday at 07:16 PM I'm glad they invited some current and former West End/UK tour cast members to the London premiere. I feel like I haven't seen that many actors from the stage production at the other premiers. 1

_Fey Posted Monday at 10:36 PM Posted Monday at 10:36 PM (edited) The first review for Wicked is live and it is glowing: https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/wicked_2024 Quote And you'll be wholly gob-smacked by the performances of Erivo—all but surely headed now to EGOT-ville with the growing buzz about an Oscar to round out her Tony, Emmy and Grammy—and Grande, a spectacularly gifted pop singer who absolutely crushes her first major film role, in a film that will certainly wear the crown as the movie musical event of the year, a grand-scale gollywhopper that will leave audiences wide-eyed…and hungrily waiting for its part two, set to arrive next November. https://neilsentertainmentpicks.com/2024/11/18/movie-review-wicked/ Edited Monday at 10:38 PM by _Fey 3
