No shade, but these aren't actual reviews. They're "social reactions" made by film influencers and pundits.

And again, no hate, but the Oscars are notorious for not nominating blockbusters, horror films or fantasy films so the idea that this is going to be celebrated at the Academy Awards is fan driven.

we love a musical masterpiece :clap3:

This is why actual experienced Broadway actors should star in musicals, not actors who you have to train to sing on a basic level (cough Les Mis), also the director needs to know what makes a musical magic on stage and translate to film correctly.

I've never been this excited about a movie :jonny6:

sad that Wicked threads are flooded by negativity due to Gaga haters that hide behind Ariana to drag her.

Hopefully these positive first impressions will start to drown out the nonstop bitching about the lighting, coloring, casting, and marketing, like it's been yearssss, I'm ready for this movie to come out already :rip:

Everyone can shut up about Gaga bc she's already experienced this praise with 2 oscar nom's attached to her first major film. Let Ariana have her moment separate from Gaga and let's hope she can have the same success Gaga had with ASIB. Both Italian legends

After lifting the social media reaction embargo, the people who have seen it can't stop praising Ariana Grande to Heavens, here's what they have to say about her:

And so many more online. Is she going to stomp on the next year's Oscars? Discuss.

She's definitely a shoo-in for a Golden Globe nomination; Oscar is still unlikely because they can be snobby but if it's as good as these reactions are indicating.... :jonny6:

All of the races are still pretty fluid in terms of contenders; no one is really a lock at this point so they should really go for it

I definitely see a golden globe nom! I was thinking Oscar's for part two, but would love to see it for part 1! She really proved herself!

It would need to be Dune 2 level good I think to have a shot outside of the technical categories, and even then, sequels have a hard climb at the Oscars as it is, and Act II of Wicked is divisive amongst a lot of the fans (being deemed the weaker half of the story); I might just be being pessimistic but we'll see. The early reactions for Part I are even better than I was expecting they'd be

She has had a natural comedic timing and acting skills in everything I've seen her in. This role is perfect for her and looks like she nailed it.

I believe the only witch or wizard performances nominated are

Ian McKellen (62 years old)

Meryl Streep (65 years old)

Someone who watched it said the colors in the trailers do not justify the actual colors in the film.

the acclaim already :jonny5:

so proud of Ariana. not even thinking about awards right now. would be amazing if she ended up with any nominations but im just so happy early reviews are all raving about her and the film in general. so many people doubted her and are gonna eat their words!

already had my tickets for the 21st opening night showing but just got more for the 18th amazon prime advanced screening :duca:

Let's not get too ahead of ourselves, this kind of fantasy movie never happens at the Oscars :gaycat6:

id say the Golden Globes and maybe the SAG awards are more likely, but being well received and doing great at the BO is clearly Universals biggest goals :clap3:

If Wicked receives acclaim from critics and smashes at the box office it might have a chance for Oscar nominations. Helps Ariana's case because the supporting category is kinder to comedies and musicals. Although the Academy is bias against fantasy, horror or really any genre movie, they did nominate Barbie last year which was a fantasy-comedy so it's not impossible for Wicked to breakthrough. Jon M. Chu is no Greta Gerwig but he has been getting praise/accolades from the industry for his work on Crazy Rich Asians and In The Heights so he's not some mid director either. I'm not predicting it as of now but I can deff see the Critics Choice, Golden Globes or SAG throw it some nominations.

Either way I'm excited for this movie and it seems her prolonged break from music was worth it and proved all the doubters wrong which is always nice to see lol.

Unrelated kinda but the Oscars would benefit from being a little less snobby, not saying they need to turn into the GRAMMYs and make it an obvious popularity contest, but maybe nominate more than 1 or 2 things people actually see and enjoy. Just a thought.
