ETA: Just saw the Variety article. I stand corrected! I hope they don’t shoot themselves in the foot with this. I’m not saying you’re wrong but to be fair, Wicked is not a new IP in the slightest. It’s been a worldwide phenomenon since its debut for the past 20 years and already has an incredibly devoted and loyal fanbase integrated into it. The only announcement of a two-parter was via the director’s IG, a very obscure outlet to obtain news, and then maybe some entertainment outlets. None of the marketing has suggested since, so it would be a very poorly planned marketing “tactic” to bait and switch a general audience into a two-part musical, let alone a musical at all. Again, not saying you’re wrong, just looking at it from a logistical standpoint. Edited February 12 by Mystic Warrior

We’ve seen two marketing bait and switches when it comes to musicals in the last two months anyway. I appreciate your viewpoint :). 1

liquiddiamonds Posted February 12 Posted February 12 (edited) The acting looks solid, but they look way older than teens and I dont remember the OG play hinting at so much CGI for a film version... we will see. it can go either way Edited February 12 by liquiddiamonds 2
LaFuerza Posted February 12 Posted February 12 This looks awful. I can't wait to see her go down on SpongeBob though.

I just saw Variety confirmed it’s still a two-parter! With the way Universal listed it (Wicked - First Look), I’m guessing that was just a teaser of the project as a whole and not just Part One.

Them waiting until the second film to show what makes the story really special is an interesting choice. Maybe it will work but I don’t know 1

Communion Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Everyone right now pretending this looks cheap or having to resort to mentioning someone hired for a supporting role not in the teaser amongst the leads: 5 3 2
Zeferino Posted February 12 Posted February 12 (edited) Loved the promotional poster Spoiler And ofc I had to revisit “Popular Song” Edited February 12 by Zeferino
Dr. Alexander Posted February 12 Posted February 12 I am surprised at the way it looks. It looks fantastic but I thought they were going for an old Hollywood, MGM Studios look to correlate with the original Oz film.
lustforyou Posted February 12 Posted February 12 As someone who knows nothing about the plot of Wicked besides it being related to the Wizard of Oz, this looks amazing to me. It also has everyone in my friend group of early-mid 20s women excited. It’ll be a success at the box office if it’s decent 3
99sandthe2000s Posted February 12 Posted February 12 I am a self-proclaimed OCH (Cynthia Orivo) and loathe the idea of supporting anything she's a part of ...... BUT this looks great I'm very interested in seeing this, I also have little to no background on Wicked beyond the Defying Gravity song. I think this will be great, as well as the soundtrack.

This wouldn’t even make sense. Spoiler Because the house lands on Nessa. If the second film starts out with the second act, Nessa would have to still be living to do her song and Elphaba would have to heal her in order for the red shoes to be revealed. I don’t know what they’re going to do but it’s strange to see Dorothy and friends in the trailer for the first part
