unino Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 this is the first movie in years that i watch more than 1 time, i guess i'm a gay theatre in heart
unino Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 they really should have kept some of the cut scenes!! esp. with the one with Boq and the one before wizard mail with Glinda. It would tensify the whole relationship and love much more.

When you add in previews, it's already over 3 hours. The movie would have been too long for theaters with all of the extras. OT: Not surprised. The show I went to last night was a sellout 1
Triton Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 I bought it last night but it didn't include any behind the scenes and deleted takes

To the right is "Sing-along version" (which adds in subtitles to the songs only). Then to the right of that is "Extras." Go in there and it'll let you watch the extra content. 1
stevenisFADING Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 whew. the movie hit just as hard at home as it did in the theater. the whole Defying Gravity scene is just that powerful. 2
Communion Posted Wednesday at 02:22 AM Posted Wednesday at 02:22 AM Okay maybe I get why now the characters have been shipped together for so long since the original Broadway play. 2

This scene shouldn't have been cut, it's necessary to the plot. It did feel weird that they went from hating each other to the ending within two songs and zero dialogues. 1
genio Posted Wednesday at 01:21 PM Posted Wednesday at 01:21 PM I just went to see it a finale time before NYE. I was surprised that the theatre was still packed, especially because it was an early screening at 1 PM. This was the first time I ever went to repeatedly see a movie. I went to the cinema 4 times. I could focus so much more on the details on my fourth and last watch. The soundtrack is still on repeat. One Short Day is my favorite today.
Jude Posted Wednesday at 09:58 PM Posted Wednesday at 09:58 PM (edited) Seems like the digital release of 'Wicked' is affecting its box office performance. Moana 2 is ahead of it again and below Frozen 2 ($4.04M) on the same day comparison. $500M domestic finish seems unreachable now. Universal must be making a lot of money from the digital release, though. Edited Wednesday at 10:00 PM by Jude

If they have chosen to release the film digitally now, it's likely because they have determined this to be the optimal moment to maximize revenue. The expected gains from the digital release are almost certainly projected to outweigh any potential losses at the box office. 1 1
Communion Posted Wednesday at 11:53 PM Posted Wednesday at 11:53 PM I do see more Wicked content online than I have since the movie first came out so it seems to be having some desired effect in terms of social media. 2 1

Also, yeah it definitely affected the box office numbers, but they must be making way more profit now through the digital release. I just want it to reach $700m at the Global Box Office and then I'm good tbh. It could be around $670 to $680m after this weekend and with the Japan release in March, $30m to $50m seem still possible, unless it crashes down. 2

That being said, I didn't feel like anything was missing before seeing it. The Ozdust Scene was more than enough to make me believe in their friendship and growth. My family and some friends basically bought out two whole rows for a showing because we went to be the only people there and it ended up being a sellout. This would be doing so much better with more theaters. 21 hours ago, Space Cowboy said: Universal's strategy of shortening the window between theatrical and digital releases has proven to be extremely profitable, and pretty much all studios have addopted it in the last few years. The expected gains from the digital release are almost certainly projected to outweigh any potential losses at the box office. Yeah, the Super Mario Movie is a great example. It made $75M in VOD within a month. That's the equivalent of grossing $150M at the domestic box office. Wicked's box office might not go as high, but the film's profits are going up, and that matters more for the studio and the actors' careers. Deadline's report is in May and I genuinely think this will blow past Dune II for #5 of 2024! 3 hours ago, genio said: It did almost 5m for NY though, at least that's some good news. You're right that it'll be around $670M globally by the end of this weekend. The following week will push it over $680M and the week after that will get it just below $700M. It still has all of February to play in smaller showings and the Golden Globes and Oscars will give it boosts. 1 1
Mikeymoonshine Posted Thursday at 09:51 PM Posted Thursday at 09:51 PM Yeah should still hit 700m which is really great and I think it will do great on digital too. I'm definitely buying it.
midnightdawn Posted yesterday at 12:30 AM Posted yesterday at 12:30 AM This film could have done with a lot of editing down. Quite a few scenes that went on for too long. I'm guessing they padded it out so people would feel they got their money's worth since not much happened. Also, Ariana shouldn't be in the supporting category. She was co-lead. 4

I'm surprised more people aren't saying this. It was good but so padded, it was almost 2 hours before they even got to the Emerald City. It definitely needed some trimming. 1 1
ATRL Moderator wehavetostan Posted 21 hours ago ATRL Moderator Posted 21 hours ago The most unnecessary scene is still the long walk once they’re in emerald city to see the wizard 2
Manchs Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago (edited) Very surprised with how obsessed I've been with this. Saw it twice at the theater and I've had multiple songs on repeat, not to mention I've lowkey gone down a Cynthia Erivo rabbit hole. Truly one for the history books. Edited 12 hours ago by Manchs
ariananext Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago When is it going to be available to buy worldwide?

I agree that the film could have been edited down a bit I know that's an unpopular take here but it's longer than the whole stagw musical. Then again idk a lot of the extra stuff is still good content. I can only think of a few things I'd cut or trim down and I'd replace some of that with deleted scenes anyway. They just told the story in a bit more depth than the stage version did, the stage musical does feel like a rush at times especially towards the end. Putting Ariana in supporting makes sense though. She is a lead but she's still playing a supporting character compared to the protagonist Elphaba. It also means they don't have to compete with each other for awards. 1
